Day -2 - Shouldn't the "Things to do" list be getting shorter, not longer?!!
Published: May 11th 2011Europe » United Kingdom » England » Kent » Tunbridge WellsWith the "things to do before I leave" list now less than 2 pages long, I thought that I should have time to sort out a blog for the trip, so that the few people who've got a passing interest in where the old boys have got to can find out without phoning us! Ah, Travelblog seems to do the job, and so here we are! Basics are now set up, and all I need to do is work out how I sort out a map. With the map now done, let's just hope that all of my readers will actually be able to see it!!... read more
Manic Monday...
Published: September 14th 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Kent » Tunbridge WellsDear all, It's been weeks since I last wrote and although I am not writing from an exotic location I thought that it was about time to let you all know how I am doing. Coming back has been easier than I thought it would be in some respects and some other small things have taken a huge amount of getting used to!! I am now back at work teaching at a Special Needs school and although I was exhausted for the first few days I am now back into a routine and to be honest it already feels as though I were never away. I can already tell you how many days until the next weekend and how many weeks until the next half term...etc etc. The thing that has been hardest is having to ... read more
This morning we set out on an epic journey which led us from the depths of Rusthall to 77 Mount Ephraim where we will be enjoying one last day at work. Looking forward to what will most likely be an even more dangerous journey back to Rusthall after a few drinks this evening. Come Saturday there's one more nights sleep then we're off to Heathrow to embark on our adventure. Speak to you soon, Ross... read more
Finally Coming Home to Perth.
Published: June 26th 2009Europe » United Kingdom » England » Kent » Tunbridge WellsHi Everyone, It's finally time to come home and I can't wait. I have places to go and people to see! Lots has happened since my last entry. I've been up to the Isle of Skye, Ben Nevis and there are some pictures on Facebook. I will probably do an entry when I get home on the 10th of July and after that will probably close this, unless I do more travelling. My day to day life won't involve nearly as much travel once I'm home. I just want to thank everyone who has looked after me while I have been here - Trevor's family, my Dad's family, Mum's family and the many people I have met since I have been here over the past 3 years. I didn't do all of the travelling I wanted, ... read more
Arrived in London on the 26th after my plane was delayed a couple of hours. Spent the past few days happily being educated in all things domestic. Auntie Helen has given me a crash course on how to make bread, pizza, pasta, and also how to garden, and how to knit. I'm no good at any of it, but it's been tons of fun so far! I'm extremely conscious of the way I talk right now - some British affectations are kind of rubbing off on me, from listening to relatives, and watching BBC/variation all the time. Rachel and Stephen tried to explain to me what a "chav" is, but I still don't get it. Okay, going to go make more tea now. Attached are photos of Auntie Helen teaching me how to make pasta, while ... read more
Testing 1 2 3 Just thought I should have a play around with this site to see if I can actually use it. I've added a couple of photos from our trip to Thailand last year Well there's less than 4 months until we finally set off! Most of 2008 so far has consisted of pouring over books, maps and websites and generally obsessing over every inch of the trip. Vickie's yet to pick up a book but maybe that's the best way. It'll be a relief when we're on the plane and we're actually doing it rather than talking about it and boring everyone around us. “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away ... read more

How on earth do you fit 12 weeks of stuff into a measly rucksack?!.... I'm sitting surrounded by clothes, flip flops, guide books, phrase books, sun cream and bug spray, looking that this little 70lt backpack thinking there is noway in hell thats all going to fit in there. I gave it my best shot and gave up, I might just hire a donkey or something to help me carry stuff around.... There's two days to go, so I should be at panic level for everything that I haven't done, yet it actually appears that, I am reasonably ready, which probably means that at 2am on monday I'll sudenly realise that I haven't actually got a passport or something rediculusly unachievable in the hour I'd have before going to Stansted. Cat's flying down later on this ... read more
