In order to spend some time with Vicki, I took the train to hip & happening Margate (near Cantebury) and spent the weekend with her and her new man Gav. We stayed at Gav's friend Jay's place, and after settling in we headed off to the pub. The boys decided to go off and do their own thing so Vic and I danced the night away while drinking a couple (maybe a few) scotch and dry's and trying to get the DJ to play old dance tunes that he'd never heard of.
Nursing our sorry heads, we headed to Canterbury to do some shopping. It's quite an amazing old town - with a fort and stone walls around it. You feel like you're in a medieval movie - they even have the triangular flags hanging over the pathways. Vicki and I shopped until we faded into "morning after time for a nap" and headed home on the bus.
By this stage I had got my hand on Jay's 3D Eye Tricks books - do you remember the ones that look like weird computer generated images, but when you look at them a 3D image pops out at you? This
book had about 100 of them. Weeeellllll... I've only ever been able to get one of those my whole life, and that was about 10 years ago, so I was determined to get at least one by the end of the weekend. Everyone around me was going on about how good they looked, even Gav who's never got them before was able to see them. It was driving me crazy!! I probably ended up spending 1/4 of my weekend staring at that book.
Saturday night was a party for one of Gav's friends who was heading off to Australia. For some reason Gav & Jay have a thing where they go to parties dressed up in fancy dress regardless of whether it's actually a fancy dress party or not, and they'd decided that this night was Saturday Night Fever. So Vicke and I were the escorts to polyester-suit & afro wearing weirdos! It was rather hilarious. We went to another pub so the boys could sing Karaoke in their outfits and slap their arses on stage. I think that they beat me hands-down in wanting attention all the time!!!
On the way back from the pub I kindly
Me & the Fro
How cool am I?
stopped to fix Gav's afro, and turned to walk down the street without realising there was a street pole in front of me. Apparently the noise I made when I walked into could be heard half-way up the street. I feel to the ground holding my nose and felt the blood start pooring out of it. Apparently Vicki thought I'd been pole dancing and I'd fallen to the floor (not this time!!!). I couldn't stop laughing and crying at the same time. I think I new it wasn't broken, but it definitely needed some ice. I've still got a bump on the ridge of my nose.
The rest of the night was long but reasonably pretty un-eventful. Sunday consisted of a greasy breakfast and me staring at the 3D book again, still with no success. On my way out the door, Jay handed it to me as a parting gift (bless him!) and Vic & Gav drove me home.
That night, after less than 10 hours sleep all weekend I managed to see one of those damn 3D pictures, but it still takes me forever to do them. I was trying for such long periods of time that
my eyes started going funny during the day so I've had to stop. For those of you who know me well, you know I don't like not being able to do something that everyone else can, but I'll get over it.
Vicki took some photos, so I'll add once received
