All right some more things:
It's great not to have to tip. It saves a boat load of money.
Everything has the tax pre-built in, so if something costs a pound, then it costs a pound.
I went to Canterbury today. I got to climb a castle wall. Also, our proffesor got drunk during lunch.
I walked into the Canterbury Cathedral, as it was a place of pilgramage, thus making it a modern day tourist attraction. Upon entering the Cathedral I am met with a gift shop. This perplexed me as it seems to be blatantly blasphemous. It turns out that the proceeds go to helping keep the Church in order, or so I am told. It does take between 9,000-12,000 pounds per day to keep the Cathedral in working condition. I'm still not sure I approve, but I was willing to be more lenient towards it. Yet, the whole tourist thing did not feel right. It was wrong. I do not believe that a Church should be a general tourist attraction. All of the people taking photos and talking seems to do a disservice ot the Cahtedral and its history. My confliction, however, did not stop me from doing this exact same thing. Perhaps it isn't blasphemous or disrespectful, the curartors and priests did not seem to mind it. I cannot help but to believe that running through the Cathedral and disrupting it from its slumber was crossing the proverbial line. Shouldn't places of worship be for just that? It seems like I was one of the few that saw this problem as most people enjoyed the beauty of the Cathedral. I just could not help to feel sad for a bygone era. This new world is a little less majestic and a little too much self centered and self gratifying for my taste. I do not see how the world can evolve and devolve at the same time. Perhaps I am alone in these thoughts.
