Sunday 1st Super-early train to Winchester, but Mary gives me a lift - she’s an early bird anyway! Something up with the trains so end up getting an earlier one, and arrive in time to catch the last half-hour of church and sit next to Kate & Jon (thankfully she’s still pregnant and not had the baby yet as otherwise might not have got a chance to see them!). We head down to the Buttercross after chatting to a few people at church, and meet up with Amanda and Karen in the Slug and Lettuce for a nice lunch, and a very nice pudding! Amanda’s in the middle of exams and Karen is off to Tango, so chat to Kate & Jon for a while as we meander back to the car, and they drop me off at Mary’s at 4pm. Get a couple of hours to catch up with Mary before heading back to church in the evening, where meet Karen on the door and get chance to say hello to a few more people! After church Karen and I head to the Queen Mary pub to catch up over a couple of drinks before she drops me back!
Monday 2nd Get a morning train in in time for my 11am appointment with Simon - find his new salon easily enough. Very orange - he has great plans, just waiting for the lease to come through! Get a good chance to catch up, and he was chuffed to get my postcards from Australia and Bolivia... where I’d told him my last haircut had cost me about £1.80. He did give me the unemployed rate of £30, which is great… Headed towards the Marlands Centre where I met up with Helen and Jonathan (ah, he’s walking!) - before heading back to their house where we chilled out for the afternoon and finally got a chance to catch up with Geoff in the evening - don’t think managed to catch him last couple of times have seen Helen. Crashed out for a good sleep…
Tuesday 3rd After a morning photo session, Helen dropped me off at a train station, then I called her back as all the trains had been cancelled for the next 2-3 hours! She then dropped me in Winchester, where I cooked up beans for housegroup before heading into town for the last few ingredients and some
time in the Christian bookshop finding materials I could use for my summer trips - found a couple of great multiple resource/humour books so happy with that - also a couple of pairs of jeans in New Look as mine have died. Headed back to cook up in time - we had great Pao de Queijo, rice and beans, bit of veg and fruit and chocolates for afters. Didn’t do much of a housegroup, just a nice chance to catch up!
Wednesday 4th Spent the morning doing some trip preparation before walking through town to see if I could find any cheap clothes suitable for the summer. Met up with Lynne, Caleb and Kezia around 3pm, had a nice time hanging out/catching up, and Andrew made it back in time to catch up/have dinner together before he dropped me off. Mary was out at art class so did some more trip preparation! Got to say hi before she went to bed!
SOME PHOTOS TO COME
Thursday 5th Had 10.20 appointment with the dentist, all fine as usual, so headed up to the Research Centre to meet up for a tea-break with Chrissie. Found my way to
the new buildings on campus and had a look round those - ran into a few people, and went to see David in his new shop, where we caught up on a few things, and I found a team-working book - might come in handy! Found the computers and found lots of information on Wikipedia on the places we’re going - check out their travel site (URL?) for lots of info. Caught up with a few emails before heading across town to meet Helene from the train station. Met Ryan at the station which was great - he’s just got a full-time job starting September at Uni Winchester! Shows that persistence pays off! Met Helene, her new flatmate/new flat, and her boyfriend all in one evening, as we finished off a bottle of Brazilian Cachica! Nice! They made sure I got back safely to Mary’s where I made sure I was packed for the morning and left a note for Mary as won’t see her!
Friday 6th Caught an early train back to Kent, as was back at the Manor before lunch. Took time before lunch to sort out my bags a bit, and ensure my washing was
on. After lunch spent a couple of hours counting out the money (a lot of it in coin) and ensuring that it was in the right folders - so many different accounts to keep track of! Collected together a lot of guide books, printed off some other information, photocopied some items, put together the bookstall, had a quick dinner, meeting with Tim, prayer for the trip and the evening was more than gone. Got to bed around 2am - but largely packed by this point! Met Paul and Sina - Paul is to be the speaker on the trip, he’s just been agreed today, so not much time for him to prepare!
