With the onset of another cold, damp and depressing UK December, a discussion commenced not more than five weeks ago with a very good friend of mine, Eilidh. After coaxing and egging on we talked each other into a trip to Thailand. With a short time the flights were booked and our fate was sealed. So two complete fraggles will now be arriving in Thailand on the 3rd December. The fun times will be had by all.
Today I have finished packing. It is a small collection of stuff as we are travelling very light. I have set up a couple of gadgets to test for the journey, which I will report on as the journey progresses.
I will be having my trusty Nokia N95 8Mb. The main feature newly installed is the Nokia Ovi Maps V3. I am hoping this will come in very handy navigating around the city of Bangkok. Unfortunately I think that it will have no use when arriving at Koh Tao as the Maps don't cover much going on there. but as long as we don't get kidnapped in Bangkok and dragged to a dungeon, then its a bonus. Unless of course we pay for such an activity.
The second gadget to be tested will be my new to the family, "Olympus tough 8000" camera. Supposed to be hard as nails and waterproof to ten metres. Its already set up with 8Gb extra memory, and a second battery. So far in a brief trial its easy to work, and small enough to fit in a pocket. Awesome. More to report later!!
Our trusty guide will be the Rough Guide to Thailand. Seems full of interesting shit to do, so that will be the main backbone of our facts before arriving at certain destinations.
Mainly looking at Bangkok for two nights, then down the south gulf coast, then pick up a ferry to Koh Tao. Get some beach time, possible diving, maybe some rock climbing and some other mad adventurous stuff to be had. Hoping to get a looksee at the "Ya Ku Sen" which is a Japanese spa and bar up in the hills of Koh Tao. Then over to Koh Samui to fly back to Bangkok, either spend a few more days there or straight back to blighty on the 16th. Eilidh will however be staying on, and enjoying the sights for a further 10 days, lucky sod.
