The Amazing Race WSU style…
Host: Brian, Susan, and Melanie
Teams: Fire Ballz, Ramrod, Gryffindor, Purple people eaters, Quadriceps, Four
Musketeers; Location: LONDON, ENGLAND!!
Similar to the popular television reality series The Amazing Race, we raced through London and progressed from one clue to another. Since we wanted to make the most of each stop and there was not a cash prize for the winner we called it the Amazing Adventure instead of race. This adventure brought us too many different places throughout this wonderful city of London. Along the way there were road blocks- we had to buy two different flavors of a style of crisps (potato chips), take a picture next to a double decker bus, mailbox, and telephone booth. Some of our destinations included the famous platform 9 ¾ from J. K. Rowling’s book series Harry Potter, St. Mary’s Hospital where the Alexander Fleming museum is found (he discovered Penicillin!), Templar Church (YES the one from the book and movie- The DaVinci Code), and lunch at a hidden pub on Fleet Street. Don’t worry the fun didn’t stop there. After lunch we listened to Dr. Ellis at the Hunterian museum >> he is a retired surgeon
who now teaches anatomy, and is very knowledgeable and a wonderful man to learn from. The adventure continued as we were sent to take pictures of the places where Sweeny Todd (the Barber of Seville) worked his deathly shop and below where Mrs. Lovett’s meat pie shop was said to be located. We also saw the building called the Australian House where the Goblin bank, Gringotts, was filmed for Harry Potter. This led us to St. Paul Cathedral. Once there we attended the Evensong in the beautiful cathedral. Following evensong we ate dinner at The Cross Keys and we had some burgers. One more surprise…we went on a ghost walk through the streets of London near the cathedral.
TALK ABOUT A CULTURAL EXPERIENCE! We are now masters of the tube and ready for bed! It was an amazing adventure and a great way to see the sites of London with some tours added in.
