All,
Well, I have made it to London in one piece. I stayed up all night, and caught a flight out of the 'Lou at 6 this morning, and then flew from Chicago to London for 7 hours, which I did end up sleeping most of. Driving to the airport with my Dad was a nerve-wracking experience. I am not really nervous to be traveling Europe alone or anything like that, I guess I am more nervous about whether or not this "backpacking" thing is for me. For years, I have watched the Amazing Race or heard stories from others and longed for the day when I would be that guy who has everything strapped to his back exploring Earth. Now, it is here, and I guess the fear is that I may not like it. My first impressions of London are a bit different than I thought they would be, at midnight on a Monday, London seems dead and deserted. I guess after all it is a Monday in late October!
Hostels will take some getting used to for sure. For some reason, when they gave me my key I was thinking I may be the only person
in the room for some naive reason, but nope, I am on the top bunk, and there is definitely someone below me. I just threw my bag in there and kind of scurried down to the internet cafe.
Nothing crazy to report yet, but I did see a fox (the animal) wandering the streets as I was walking to the hotel/hostel from the Underground ... bizarre. Speaking of the Underground, it was a fun experience just to take the tube. Anyway, if anyone wants to Google Ace Hostel London, that's where I am staying. Ok, good night, hold down the states for me!
