What better way to forget a past lover than to throw yourself into the dating game. Within two nights of returning to London I had been asked out to three dates, I have to admit this made me feel rather smug with myself. Date # 1 Chris the funny man was someone I had met a few months prior and we had kept in casual touch over facebook, he contacted me upon my return and we met at a small bar in Kensal Rise for open mic comedy night. Chris is a really relaxed person and I found the conversation to flow easily. He works in Marketing for a local Italian chain and moonlights as an amateur comedian. As interesting as I found him, I was not attracted. Not tall enough, small mouth (though very big ... read more

So it's Good Friday, I'm slightly hungover, and I'm excited that it's my last day of work. I turn up on the doorstep at Skype, my place of work for the past six months, only to be greeted by a security guard telling me there is no power and I'm not allowed access. Apparently it's going to take a couple of hours to fix, and he suggests that I take a pew on the couches in front of reception. Bugger that, I thought. It is such a nice day, a rarity for London, and I'm about to leave the country for good. Without any further ado, I grabbed my stuff and set off to take advantage of the beautiful weather. London was eerily quiet. I work just up the road from Oxford Street and I'm used ... read more

Next place to visit, the nation's capital! I departed Bath railway station on Sunday morning, had to catch a bus to Swindon as they were doing trackwork. Then I had to wait 30 minutes at Swindon station for the train to London Paddington, interestingly enough at the station cafe they had pokie machines; for those commuters that plan on betting before the trip to work, here I thought a book was good enough! I pulled into Paddington approaching midday, bloody freezing at this time... and all the train travelers were packed in like sardines as everyone makes there way down to the underground. My accommodation was on Oxford St, a youth hostel - YHA, the room was what you would expect for £100 for 2 nights. The curtains didn't really fulfill their duties by providing darkness, ... read more

I shop, therefore I am! Didn’t someone say that once? Maybe not, but man I had a great day. Jas being the amazing daddy that he is, gave me a leave pass to go shopping along Oxford Street today. And did I shop! I started the day around the corner from where I used to work at Marble Arch. I had a coffee for old time sake at Pret A Manger, where I used to go every morning. Then I spent hours in Primark, something I always wished I could do when I was rushing back to work after my lunch hour. It isn’t very “Vogue” but you get a lot for your dollar. Then I walked up Oxford Street and went to all my old favourite shops, New Look, H&M, Dorothy Perkins, TopShop! It was ... read more

We landed at Heathrow airport around 2pm after a brief flight from Lisbon. I was pretty nervous about re-entering the UK after forfeiting our visa and I.D cards a few weeks earlier. All we had was our itinerary for the rest of our trip which should have been enough but you just never know which customs agent you might get and what kind o mood they might be in, especially at Heathrow. I made sure we had all of our customs cards filled out and passports to hand, way before we reached the counter just in case. Finally, after lining up with the rest of the migrants we reached the customs desk. The woman wasn't as surly as I had first expected, she was reasonably polite asking few questions. I was seriously surprised at how easy ... read more

After a few uneventful weeks after the Oktoberfest (which was well needed) a new house mate moved in. Our usually quiet and often dull home is now filled with Janette. A young student from York completing a internship in London for the next 10 weeks. Her voice and personality are loud, unashamed and brash, however she is also gentle and kind. With Janette there is also Edd, and the two are in a constant battle to out yell and out foul each other, together we form a hilarious trio. As the two are both gay, I am coming familiar with London’s gay bars. Dressing up, pre dinks and constant laughter fill the house each Saturday night. Janette, as a fem’e lesbian, takes longer to get ready that Edd and I combined. We jump on the tube ... read more

Off to the BIG bus tour - Trafalgar Square, down Whitehall, Big Ben, House of Parliament, Tower of London, Changing of the Guard, (Emily touched one of the Guards), Shopped in Harrods - bought some delicious chocolates etc. Next was Leicester Square to buy some tickets to West End theatre. Saw the Jersey Boys - great show, had a £4 coffee. Walked back to hotel via seedy Soho - beggars, slime balls - you get the idea! John is still chatting with the locals. ... read more

After 8 hours of movies, food, Singapore Slings, Tiger Beer and "wondering how those Singapore hostesses could possibly have such small waistlines", we arrived at beautiful, spacious Changi Airport. We appreciated the 6 hour sleep session at the airport Ambassador Hotel but Emily has now gone 24 hours without sleep. She is hype up. After 14 hours of movies, food, Singapore Slings, Tiger Beer and "wondering how those Singapore hostesses could possibly have such small waistlines", we arrived at the "cattle crush" of Heathrow airport. It looks like every nationality is represented.Emily has now gone 40 hours without sleep. Customs check only our passports - where was that airport security! ? ! ? Located Gigi, our West Indian transit driver and off to the Thistle Euston. John chats to Gigi. Good news - Emily finally sleeps. ... read more

We left Auckland airport at Monday 8th March at 1.10am and after a couple of long flights we arrived in London at 7.15pm the same day. This was our longest Monday ever! We explored London on foot on our first day trying to get our bearings. Everything seemed so central from our hostel near the Oxford Circus station. We saw the Big Ben, Trafalgar Square, Paliament Buildings, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, 10 Downing Street, the old Scotland Yard and walked along the Embankment. The next day we went to the New Scoland Yard to see Sophie's work collegue at the Crime museum, then we were off to The Royal College of Surgens to see the Hunterian Museum which was facinating. Check it out on http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/museums/information/joshua-guide/. From there we discoved that the Brittish Museum was only 5 ... read more
