"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford." -- Samuel Johnson
Oh the broad and varied culture of London life! We've been here for nearly 6 months and have already decided that 1 year in London is far too short to truely enjoy what this great city has to offer.
When we first arrived in October 2008, we pretty much hit the ground running with job interviews, finding accommodation and finding a flat. We were very fortunate in that we were able to house sit for Vicky's aunt in Welwyn Garden City for the first 3 weeks which helped us find a place to live. Despite the economic climate, Jan was offered a role after 3 days and Vicky found a rolling temp contract 1 week later. We also found a place in Greenwich where we had 3 other flatmates who were straight out of Nigeria.
Greenwich is an awesome little village in London - so much culture and history! But I have to admit living with the Nigerians did have some challenges. Aside from the fact that we spoke a different language, we also ate completely different food and kept completely different hours. Which made it really hard since we had to be up early for work every day!
So after a 3 month stint with the Nigerians, we moved to an apartment in the lovely Canada Water on the Docklands in London. We've been there for almost 2 months and are starting to feel incredibly settled, especially now that Spring is starting to bloom. Slowly we're fitting in more sight-seeing and tourist activities. We're looking forward to the summer where we'll hopefully be able to do even more travel and sight-seeing!
Watch this space - will have some more news of our travels up soon :)
