HotelThis is my Notting Hill hotel room. Keep in mind that I had to share this room with two other males. There is a cot in the room but I couln't get it in because I was already standing against the wall
... [more]Hello Everyone!! I arrived to Nottinghill (near Hyde Park) and very near to Central London. We (the Butler group) are staying in a hotel for a couple of days for orientation before we go to our university. I leave for my university on Thursday afternoon. I didn't really do much yesterday, when I actually arrived, because I was so tired. I did go to a pub near our hotel called The Swan. It is nice and very quaint. I tried some mildly warm beer and I also had, yes!, cold beer too. I went to bed at 10pm London time which would have been 4pm our time in Indiana. I am sharing a very small room with two other people, and surprisingly and oddly enough, I am the only girl sharing a room with the opposite sex. It's not too bad, they just kind of smell a little but that's only because our room is so so so small. We have two twin beds and a cot in the room, no ac, but it's okay because the temp has been around 70 in the day and 50 at night. Today, after orientation, a fellow student and I walked to Central London.
Idiot proof signsLook Dad! The streets are Jen-proof, or what some others might say Idiot-proof!! Don't mind the bloke in the picture, he looked left.
We went to Trafalgar Square, Soho, The place where they do the changing of the guard, The House of War, and St. Martins Cathedral (which was surprising because the stained-glass windows didn't have pictures in them), we probably saw other things but I didn't notice or remember. They have public toliets (restrooms) everywhere and one of them looked very modern, we couldn't figure out how to get inside of it, we looked so foolish looking around it for the entrance but it was HILARIOUS!! But what shocked me the most is that I, yes I, found our way back from Central London (where the roads have no system of placement) back to our hotel without using a map. We are, give or take, two miles away from Central London. And, for those who care, I have only spent about £25s so far, which is pretty good. We walked along Oxford St., where all the good shopping is, and I didn't buy anything. Well that's it for now. I'll try to post some pictures soon but as of now the only computer access I have is at an internet cafe where it's a pound for 15 minutes ($2). So I hope things are going well for everyone and keep the comments coming!!!
From across the sea,
Jen
