Hello again, everyone! So last Thursday and yesterday (Sunday) were both milestones for me; Thursday marked my first full week in the UK, Sunday marked my first full week in my new home in the halls here. Yay!! I survived a week! The rest will all be a piece of cake. On Saturday, as I mentioned in my last entry, there was a trip to Windsor Castle and Eton, put on by the organizers of the British Life and Culture class that I'll be taking while in school here. The castle was BEAUTIFUL! I loved it. The insides were gorgeous, and though we couldn't take pictures (photography isn't allowed inside) I took maybe 100 photos of just the outside itself. I loved it! I also got postcards so I have some picture representation of the inside ... read more

So here I am. I said I would start a blog about my journeys, and by George, I'm finally doing it. Welcome, everyone! Hopefully I get the hang of this blogging thing before too long. I promise not to turn this into a diary :P I am in England; it's finally hitting me. I love it! I'm so extremely excited, and yet very intimidated at the same time. A new country, a new school system, and a new bed until June, it's what I've always wanted to do. Since arriving here, the snow has been wet (more wet than I'm used to, at least), and it's been gloomy nonstop; however, I am in heaven. I love it here. Classes start on Monday, and those will most definitely be fun. The classes I'm taking are nothing like ... read more

Rucksack packed and in the boot I set off with mum and Ums in the car to get to Heathrow. It was only really then that it really registered that I was off on this mini adventure and to boot was unemployed and likely to be living at home when the clock hits 30 next year. Cue minor freak out... but this was soon replaced by endless excitement. Thankfully Hayley and Lisa were already in Bangkok so I'd have at least two friendly faces to meet me out there. I knew I'd make friends on the way but meeting people you know helps ease you in gently. Saying goodbye to mum and Ums involved the standard waving at each turn on each row in the queue for the departure lounge. Customs was surprisingly quick, not the ... read more

Celebrating Around Irene's Tree Today would have been Irene's birthday and is also the anniversary of the planting of Irene's hawthorn tree on this day last year. Floss and Monk had orginally planned a champagne toast around the tree in the evening before going off to the local Thai restaurant. Richmond Park is normally open 24 hours for pedestrians even during the dark winter nights. Then Monk heard that Irene's brother Arthur and his wife Pat were, in any case, planning to drop by the tree during the day with Irene's nieces Joanna and Lucy together with Jason and Chilli and their beautiful girls Bella and Charlotte. From that original plan, things grew. On Saturday afternoon, 16 of us met by the tree, drank champagne and laughed and chatted for almost an hour. Monk's mum, brother, ... read more

Hampton Court Palace: how to make friends with royalty With the sun shining and the temperature at a balmy 2 degrees, four Aussies and one Saffa set off to see the home of the once great King Henry VIII, Hampton Court Palace. The palace was in the midst of Christmas celebrations, so we observed many a nobleman and fair lady as they set about their lives in the midst of the arrival of King Henry VIII and Queen Katherine Howard. Many an intrigue was told and some awkward moments observed as the first meeting of Queen Katherine and Anne of Cleves was henceforth witnessed. Little did we know that there was a lady amongst our presence and in due time Lady Julia was revealed and revered by the men of the court, whose compliments included both ... read more

Right, This is the beginning I guess, I thought about doing this a few times now. But for this trip I've decided to try and make one. Man Without Marbles it sort of started with a trip a few years ago with Fisher when we went to Thailand after spending the summer at his Mum and Dads bar Rascals. We ended in India after a good stint around Thailand and Cambodia, I met a swede and ended up in indonesia and then living in Sweden??? Thats another storie in itself, but anyone who has ever worked abroad lived aborad, then you understand, only difference was it was my best mates bar, and at the time we had a shit load of cash and did not really give two fucks.... Around December my other best mate Simon ... read more

Hey finally ..............Well 3 weeks since we left NZ. Eight days in Thailand was great - very hot 35 degrees I would guess. We have two full days in Bangkok and enjoyed a couple of day trips. I had an amazing massage in Bangkok for $12. That girl had my limbs in places I didn't think they would go to. I felt like I would snap at times. We then flew to Phuket and hang out a Kamala Beach also did another couple of day tours . The food at Kamala Dreams was fantastic the thought of the chicken satay makes my mouth water. The view from our room was great and we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Of course our stress levels went up, when we arrived at Phuket Airport to catch our flight back to ... read more

Okay so let's say this right off the bat, there are at least four different names for the airport in Naples. The signs on the motorway may or may not have a pictogram of a plane next to one of the names and the pictogram for the civilian airport is the same as for the International airport. There are no kilometres on any of the signs and some places the arrows poit in two opposite directions. The Lonely Planet guide says you need a death wish to drive in Naples, I'd settle for a decent road sign! Eventually we spot a carabiniere who is booking some motorist for staing in the right lane and then indicating when intending to overtake, so I get out and the policeman manages to give me directions I understand. By following ... read more

Well, the "travel frog" (as Dasha likes to call me) was 'hopping off' again this weekend. Yes, I know it sounds crazy, but I headed to London for a long weekend. Several months ago, an old high school friend found me on the web and emailed me. To find out, he is now living and working in London and guess who was touring through London this weekend, yes Cirque (Varekai)! Actually Cirque had been there for about a month and just extending some extra shows into this week so I asked Greg if he was doing anything and headed off to London. Greg worked on Friday so I stayed in the city where I was picked up by the tour bus on Friday morning. I have done most of the tourist things in and around London ... read more
