Tuesday started with lunch with Scouser Steve George. I hadn't really expected to see him, but he lives in Chiswick not far from Andy and Dee and so I dropped him a line. As he also works in Chiswick, he was able to pop out for a lunchtime snack - by which I obviously mean pint. He worked for Verizon in Sydney until a couple of years ago when he decided to move home and start a family. He’s working for a company specialising in delivering media to mobile phones. Yes. Obviously. Porn. Like any other part of the internet, it’s boobies that make the world go round. Bless ‘em. Lunch took a little longer than expected, and left me without enough time to get to the Tate, so I pottered around a bit then got ... read more

Dinner and New Friends I'm eating at a dimly-lit restaurant off of Kensington High Street in the heart of a London shopping district. I had bought a ticket to hear Kim Eng, Ekhart Tolle's partner, speak at 7:30. I got off the tube right at 7:30, and I swear to you, the venue where she's speaking doesn't freakin' exist! I walked around for an hour before I finally stopped in at this restaurant. The man behind the bar is very friendly with me. We chat about where I'm from, homesickness, my difficulties with my job, and how much he loves his job. After I finish my meal, he gets down his bottle of Jack Daniels and two small glasses. "It's on me," he says, handing me a glass of the finest Tennessee whiskey. "Cheers." We ... read more

Well we made it to London! It's crazy to think that our trip is half way over! But we still have a couple weeks left! Our flats are huge! Especially compared to the extremely small hostel we had 4 people scrunched into. I'm living with Katie Sloan, 2 girls from my sorority - Vanessa Hart and Britt Zwolfer, and Sarah Miers. We have our own kitchen, 2 bed rooms, and 2 bathrooms. We are living in Kensington. This area is the 3rd wealthiest in London, and the 5th in the world. So I better start looking for a husband ;) - just kidding dad. On Saturday and sunday we just relaxed. We went to the grocery store and figured out our way around. Monday we had orientation where we learn about the different things we need ... read more

After a week of lavish food and wine in Italy mid-September, then a week at Beerfest less than two weeks later, I wondered why I had signed up for the Royal Parks Half Marathon. Leaving less than a week till d-day, I had to hope my 'pre-drinking' training set me in good stead! And with a course that ran past London's most iconic landmarks, I was determined to compete. As the name suggests, we ran through Hyde, Regent's and St James' Park. Then it was past Wellington Arch, Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster, up the Thames along Embankment, through Trafalgar Square, The Mall and finally past Albert Memorial to finish back in Hyde Park. The weather on race-day couldn't have been better and the course was superbly organised for the 12,000 who took part and the ... read more

I know you are all probably thinking only of the upcoming Grand Final on Saturday, but hopefully you all have some time to think of the Griswold family over here on their continuing European Vacation! I'm writing this at about 8.30am on Thursday morning while chatting with the kids. Dean is having a little lie in as he and Lochie didn't get home until midnight last night - they spent the afternoon and evening down at Portsmouth (I'll let him tell you all about that later!) while Ains and I had a 'girls afternoon' wandering around Harrods and shopping in Kensington High Street! So...back to Tuesday! We wanted to see as much as we could (well Dean and I did anyway!) so got all day Travel Passes for the Tube and 'hit the town'. First stop ... read more

Somewhere close to Kensington Gardens... Well, I've been simply awful about keeping up with my online journal entry so this is my attempt to catch up before I get home! My time in London was awesome. I lived in the neighborhood of Kensington which is one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in England. That means our area was safe but a bit pricey. We managed thanks to a grocery store called Sainsburys and Sandwich World where you could get a sandwich for only 2 GBPs. Not a bad deal! Our flats were located just 10 minutes from Kensington Gardens next to Kensington Palace which flows into Hyde Park. In our first week, we went on a walking tour to become familiar with the area, a bus tour to get our bearings about London in general, and all ... read more

Day 1 - Monday 25th August We arrived at 6:35am London time after a bum numbing flight from Bangkok (there’s got to be serious money in making aeroplane seats comfortable) Anyway, with minimal sleep and much excitement we arrived to be met by our tour leader Buddy and be whisked away on a morning tour of London. Well that was the plan, unfortunately Buddy slept in throwing everything into disarray. Luckily for us our tour guide, Warren, was on the job and loaded us onto the coach and got us ready to go. Just as we were about to leave we saw Buddy scurrying across the car park with a slightly embarrassed look on his face - he knows there’s a serious fine waiting for him for that one. Now all aboard and it was time ... read more

Everyday was long and tiring in London. Thu Arrived at 6am. Too early for check-in but hotel managed to provide a day room for us to wash up. Took a quick nap before heading out for a quick breakfast and meeting at London RO. Nice cosy office. Did a quick site recce before proceding to buy tickets for our musical for this evening and also collect pre-ordered tickets for my bosses. Lotsa walking in the heels and heavy lappy. Dashed back to hotel to check-in and out again to rush for our Dirty Dancing musical. Love the dancing and music. But too tired from the long flight and long day that I fell asleep during the slower parts. No appetite for dinner after the show. All I wanted was to go back to sleep. Fri ... read more
