Cleaning day in Wheathampstead
We are a bit (or a lot) behind with our blogs as we moved house in November and have been waiting until today to get the internet installed in our new place. Nothing like efficient service hey!
So back in November we said a heartfelt goodbye to beautiful Wheathampstead and an excited hello to our new and permanent (at least for the next 12 months) home in Islington.
We enjoyed our time in Wheathampstead very much. It’s a gorgeous little town 46km north of London, which is about a 1 hour and 15 drive. We had spent about 2 months in total living up there since arriving in the UK, initially house sitting for our now dear friends. But despite the greenery and array of great pubs, the travel time and 14 hour days eventually got the better of us.
After three weeks of hard house hunting in London, we finally found the right place. It was a team effort - I found a picture of the flat online and then Nick inspected it and assured me it was fantastic. So with that, we put in a good bid and won the

lease! It wasn’t easy though. We had to provide a mountain of paperwork, a hefty sum in deposits and even a UK guarantor, since we have no credit history over here.
Soon enough moving day came, and we packed up for the 23rd
time since leaving Melbourne. Nick was nervous as we drove to our new house, hoping that I would like it as much as he did, since I hadn’t seen it. And of course, I did!
So we are now settling in to our lovely London flat in the funky and cute area of Islington. We are about 5km north of London Bridge and have lots of shops, restaurants and bars nearby. We have a park over the road with tennis courts, basketball courts and table tennis and a canal that runs through the area and all the way along to the outskirts of London. There are coffee shops along the canal and a fabulous weekend market.
We are very happy in our new little home and certainly thrilled to have signed a 12 month lease, which means no packing and no moving for at least another year! It’s
nice to see the bottom of our suitcases again!
