So today I went to my first professional football game aka soccer to us Americans. It was totally epic! It's custom to go to a pub and drink before you go to the game. We went to the Fulham Football Club stadium but we were on the Everton side. Thank goodness I don't follow football so I didn't really care which side I sat on. The way they check your tickets though is through bar code. You just slide your ticket under a scanner and they let you go through those rotating bars. It's actually really efficient rather than have someone check each ticket at a window. Also just at like rock concerts in the states you aren't allowed to have the lids on top of your drinks or bring your alcohol into the stands so ... read more

Rejuvenated by a good night's sleep, we felt ready to play tourist. Our big debate of the morning was whether we should leave on the night flight to Copenhagen, our ultimate destination, or stay another day in London which was meant to only be a stopover. I made the executive decision to stay another day. This would give us a full day to savour London without the extreme tiredness that came with yesterday's full day. Since we had never been to the British Library, we decided it was worth a visit. All the literary treasures, including the Magna Carta, inside could not excite me as much as Mozart's original manuscript. After the British Library, we walked to the British Museum. Don't believe the locals when they tell you it's only a short walk between places -- ... read more

The sleep that one hopes for on an overnight night flight from the East Coast to London? Forget it -- the flight is too short, the Economy seat is too narrow and being near the back means that you have a constant stream of traffic to/from the loos. Air travel today is a far cry from its glamourous heyday. Remember when, just a few years ago, Business Class seats were deep captain's chairs with a good space between your neighbour and you? And we should have saved our jokes about airline food for the unrecognisable comestibles that are being served today. Only 2 of our 3 checked-in bags made it on the same flight as us -- the third bag was not allowed to be on the flight (unaccompanied bag) since it was mistagged for one ... read more

Greetings from the United Kingdom! Hello everyone! This will be just a quick email to let you know we got to Kuala Lumpur fine, and then travelled onward to London without any problems, besides our no-sleep. Oh and the old guy next to me whacking me while he slept peacefully... i was tempted to use my pillow to help him sleep forever... haha joking! relax guys! We got into London about 5:30am after 21hrs total of flight time, and caught the train from Heathrow airport. Wheelie luggage and stairs does not work very well... especially if you take the wrong train and have to go back and try it all again haha! oops. We walked to our hostel, met our roomie... Manuel from Italy... showered, (much needed!) then set off to explore Fulham. Any fulham fans ... read more

At 7:00 AM I am out the door, on my way to the train station. The sun is not yet up and I tramp along in near darkness, dawn blushing ever so faintly on the horizon. It's cold and my breath hangs in the air like a spritz of perfume. Only a few other souls have ventured out so early on a Sunday, and I imagine that I am in a disaster scenario movie where everyone else has fled or died or turned into zombies. We are the sole survivors. A few more people congregate at the train station but the carriages are hardly full--maybe 10 other people are in my car. We pull out of the station spot on time, just as the sun rubs the sleep from its eyes. As we make our way ... read more

Have I really been at this a week? My stomach was in knots the day of my departure last Thursday. I was a ball of giddiness and nausea, excitement and apprehension as I made my way to Dulles. The metro ride was no longer a metro ride, but a catapault, an usher into the first leg of my trip. A normally mundane and quite annoying series of stops, waits, and go's took on new importance and dignity this time around. The day thus far had been a more chaotic than necessary, and I still felt a little hurried from the day's events--a frantic search for a battery charger, brunch AND a bottle of wine with DC's best of the best, and a record breaking packing session that left me convinced I was still forgetting something (flip ... read more

So we got here safely after the long 25 hour flight. Dan used the eye patches to try and get to sleep, had a reaction to the material and ended up with bulbous lower lids for the first day of the trip...pretty bogus. I honestly thought they would pop when we got to Abu Dhabi, which was a blinging airport, looking forward to hanging out in the emirates some time in the future. Watched Avatar, invention of lying, the book of eli and fantastic mr fox on the plane, which really was awesome, it was one of my favourite books as a young chap! Anyway after a slight hitch with heathrow's arival information we met up with dans cousin estella and her uncle phil and made our way out to kent to relax a little and ... read more

We don't usually enjoy traveling in large cities. If you read back on our travels we usually enter cities just to stock up on essential stuff as well as essential pleasure (you sometimes just HAVE to have a good meal and a latte) Some big cities are worthwhile to visit. Rome gets the taste-buds flowing, San-Francisco is pleasant, Hong-Kong combines the East and West, Jerusalem is truly the most beautiful city in the world, Berlin is so...well...German and Paris has that je-ne-sais-pas that makes it really romantic. I'm positive that living in these cities is an enjoyable experience that I would like to experience as well. However, visiting the touristic sites in these places makes me feel a little stupid by standing in the same place as 18 million other tourists that year taking a photo ... read more

Friday April 24th BUS VS. TRAIN Transportation in London always holds surprises. Yesterday, we tried booking a bus from Corsham to London, only to discover that we'd pay £38 for the pleasure of sitting on a bus for 3 1/2 hours on what should be a 1 1/2 hour car ride. The train, on the other hand, cost a whopping £1 more. Trains in England are more than two worlds away from the ones taking millions across India. For starters, everyone is allotted a whole seat. Additionally, the train moves along at about 600 miles an hour, causing the English country side to blur. There's a special section for our combined 50 kilos of luggage, and yet somehow we're more wary of it. Everyone is talking into their cell phones and struggling with Sudokus, but we ... read more
