London, like any huge cosmopolitan metropolis, is the home of many nationalities. Roughly 40%!o(MISSING)f the London population is of foreign origin, you can hear people talking in Turkish, Spanish, French, German, Bengali, Pakistani, Polish, Japanese,etc...
The Camden Borough is supporting a project which wants to bring this diversity of languages closer to everybody and encourages teaching all sort of languages after school, community languages that is. They're sponsoring a
Teaching Community Languages course which I attend every Friday for 3 hours and it's run by a lovely Bengali teacher. From what I've seen so far, it looks like it's gonna be lots of fun and lots of work as well, as we have assignments and very strict dead-lines, but there's nothing to fear, I've always been quite studious, and I actually enjoy it. The group I'm in, there are about 10 of us, mostly Colombian ( hurrrrraaaaah!! 😊)) ), but other nationalities as well, everybody's a lot of fun y me encanta practicar mi espanol con ellos. 😊
I started my work at
ESFORAL yesterday and I love it!! It is a Latin-American school based in Camden and this group of Kinder has 14 kids aged 2-6, and
their level of Spanish is very different, so it's quite difficult to work with them, as there are kids who understand every word of Spanish you tell them and there are others who don't understand much. It's lovely to work with them and the way they use English and Spanish words in the same sentence, it is like the
Spanglish everybody used to speak in Medellin, only that here these amazing kids speak Spanish with a slight English accent. But there are others, so great at speaking both, that when they speak Spanish, it is perfect Spanish, they have the pure South-American accent, the voice intonation, and when they switch to English their voice switches automatically, the accent as well, they don't even realize it, but it's fantastic. It's called being bilingual and it's a great experience to be around these kids and working with them!
