Hi everyone!
Seeing as I didn't want you all snooping around on my facebook and there's a very annoying time difference between London and Melbourne that makes Skyping almost impossible I thought I'd create a blog and let you all be updated on how everything is going and what I'm up to here in Londontown.
I've just hit 5 weeks here and time has gone incredibly quickly! I'm still staying with the boys I met in Asia and have been spoilt rotten by them. I've only just had to start sleeping on the couch as they've been kind enough to share beds so that I had my own for over a month. They cook me dinner a lot and make me cups of teas. I just have to put up with all the farting! There's also always an endless supply of cookies as Josh works for a company that sells cookies and various other sweets. I've now had to sweets out of my diet completely. One week in and going strong although I may have replaced chocolate with cheese :/
Despite them being very easy going guys I now feel like I'm intruding and would really like a
room of my own. The only problem is I'm having trouble finding a job. I've had a few interviews that have gone really well but I've been pipped at the post by someone else, I can't believe they don't fall for my Aussie charm. A lot of the waitressing/bar/retail jobs are looking for experience which I don't really have so it's proving to be a frustrating struggle. Hopefully something will come up soon!
I really don't know how I've managed to spend 5 weeks here and only now starting to get bored. In the first 2 weeks I spent a lot of time getting used to the Tube system and just don't understand how Myki is such a fail back at home when London do it so well. I've done a lot of sightseeing that you can see on the photos I've uploaded. I haven't been able to find a little Big Ben figurine for you Jack but I'll do my best to find some at the markets and send it home with a photo! In the next few weeks I hope to get down to Stonehenge and Bath which is doable in just a day trip. I still
cannot wait until I jump on the train to Paris! I've booked a trip in September for Oktoberfest with my cousin Jackie and will be going with friends here and meeting up with friends from Melbourne so it will be a great trip!
The weather here over the last few days has been amazing and I've actually broken into a sweat! There's a park about 20mins walk from where I am called Clapham Common, it's off the high street that has a lot of pubs and clubs and restaurants. I spent almost the whole afternoon there twice this week and both times there's been hoards of people there mostly with their shirts off and bikinis on. Crazy pastie english people.
Speaking of crazies I'm in the 'Bronx' of London. It's full of black people (yep i've become a racist and have good reason) and although it's very safe people here aren't the nicest. Everyone is trying to get somewhere and they do not care if you're in their way no matter how short and white you are. I've also been getting quite a lot of unwanted attention. I've actually had the same guy hit on me twice in
the space of 3 weeks using the same pick up line and without even realising it. Sorry Tom but I don't think I'm going to find Prince Charming in this neck of the woods!
Well that's all from me now. I'll try and update this every few weeks. Fingers crossed for some work soon! I hope everything is going well back home and I look forward to hearing from each household.
Lots of love,
Alexandra xoxo
