The Fence Collective were in town for the big Roundhouse shindig, but the music business is not all glitz and glamour. A free night is an opportunity to spread your sound to a wider audience and so all roads for Johnny Lynch aka the Pictish Trail lead to Dalston. The Dalston Victoria or to be more precise - the up and coming music venue that is the backroom of the Vic. You can't keep Secret Soundz to yourself. This is proper touring, complete with a transit van. We arrived on the bus from the more up market surroundings of Highbury & Islington. Arsenal fans meandered past us down Upper Street with sullen faces. It was difficult to tell whether they had won, lost or were just the 30,000 disinterested that follow them. Another FA Cup defeat. ... read more

Arrived in London at 5am I had a bloody marry for breakfast on the plane. I made my way to the train station and caught the express to Paddington Station and waiting to meet Steph. Purchased my first Oyster card for the public transport and went to Steph's house in near Bethnal Green Station. Steph took me for a walk around the area so I was familiar with what was around her place. Sleepiness hit me early for the first few nights. Steph showed me through local markets around the place took me to primark to get some jumpers and to the westfield and had dinner at Jamie's Italian. I joined some of the people that where going on the same contiki tour I was doing through Europe for some tours throughout London before contiki journey ... read more

Hello again, Not a great deal to report this week I'm afraid. Signed up to a few more au pair agencies who have been sending me some families to consider. There was a really hopeful family I looked at who were moving to Italy in July and are currently in London, so meeting for an interview would have been easy. Unfortunately they really wanted someone with a driving license so that took me out of the running, which I was pretty gutted about. Considered doing an intensive driving course, but didn't really want to lay out all that money when it's not a guaranteed pass and driving in another country with kids in the car could end very badly! So the search continues... Hopefully will have more news next week. Finding it really annoying that I ... read more

What do you do on a cold, gray day in the middle of winter? Grab the camera and head to the east end of London to explore a local market and a more 'rustic' part of Regents Canal. My friend Maarit and I made our way to Bank to experience the city without the city boys (they tend to clog the place up). A short walk along the deserted streets to Liverpool Street Station to jump a train north east to Broadway Market, a little East End street between the Regent’s Canal and London Fields. Broadway Market is an oasis of food, vintage fashion and quirky market stalls. Its only a small market but has a good selection of organic fruit & veg, bread, cheese, fish and that east end classic jellied eel vying with flowers, ... read more

Welcome to entry one! This is just really to update our profile to 'Blogger' status so you can search us in the Bloggers bit if you don't know our URL. I'm guessing you've either done that and found us, courtesy of this blog, or you already knew our URL and came straight here, in which case this blog wasn't necessary for you. But for those that found us via the search panel, welcome! For those that knew our URL, it was probably because you got sent an invite, which in turn probably means you know either me or Jeppy and therefore don't need a formal greeting. S'up. This is the place to come for some (family friendly!) accounts of what we're getting up to for the next 10 months. The insurance is sorted, the jobs are ... read more

Here am I, officially on holidays, yay ! I'm still in London for few days, then I'm heading to France (Bordeaux & Cap-Ferret) for 2 weeks to see friends & family. London is actually quite enjoyable with this lovely weather, it's 31 degrees today, no kidding ! It's a sign, London will be missing me !! I left my flat, stored all my stuffs (many thanks to my sis and her attic !), backed all the necessary clothes & items I'll need along the way. My brand new orange backpack is ready to become my new home! Ahead of me, few months of traveling, meeting new peeps, discovering new cultures... Can't wait. Already started dreaming about it! Traveling also involve endless line ups at airports, walking with a heavy bag pack with a scorching heat, ... read more
