mascot of the FSU LSC I did Laundry! By myself! Okay, no, Jessica had to help me, but the point is still that, I did it by myself! So now while I am waiting for it to finish, I stole away to the computer lab to write to you fine people. The most exciting news of all is that I now have a cell phone, it is only 100 min a month but this is only for outgoing calls. To recieve calls it doesn't use my minutes at all. So if you don't mind paying long distance and fancy giving me a call just drop me a comment/message and I will send you my super fancy phone number.
hold that thought... laundry is done will finish later....
And now all my underwear is yellow. WHo-RAH! I accidentally washed it with an orange pashmina that I bought in Reading. Ha, started this entry 5 days ago and am just getting to finishing it. There is no way I can cover everything in as great of detail as I usually do so I will just go with the parts that stood out in my mind.
Tuesday night we saw the play 'Under the Blue Sky'
All the world's stage
that we a going through which I thought was done quite well. Besides the plays at the globe it was the first professional play I had ever seen. (meaning non-musical) Catherine Tate was in it, many of you probably don't know who she is but she is a big deal in Britain. She was VERY good. I wish I had found the scene that she was in a long time ago, that would have been exactly what I was looking for for competition.
Wednesday we went to the Globe again, this time with the Uni rather than just my Shakespeare class. We got a tour of the theatre and then one of the actors who opened on the Globe's stage took us to a lecture theatre and gave us a bit of an insight on performing Shakespeare. We did a scene from Julius Caesar and my admiration for Shakespearean actors had only been reaffirmed. There are things that I see on that stage that never would have come to me just from the text, they must have some pretty amazing directors. After this a few of us went to a near by Pizza place to get something to eat before the matinée we had
at the Globe
Jess, Matt, Jette, and I tickets for. My pizza had an egg in the middle of it, I thought it was really cute. We got back to the Globe a bit early so we would have a chance to push ourselves to the front since we were once again standing in the yard. Jess and I were able to push ourselves up to the stage but kind of on the side, but that's alright I saw almost everything. Merry Wives of Winsor was amazing! I knew nothing about it going in and now it is my second favourite Shakespeare. (2nd only to Much ado about nothing) I cant wait to see another show at the Globe, it is starting to get less annoying to stand. 😊
Thursday was back to the usual classes but late that evening I jumped onto a train and turned up in Reading. It was the most spontaneous thing I have done in a while, so it was quite exciting. The train was very crowded because there was a Madonna concert that night and everyone was trying to get home and I was really hot for the first time since I had been here (right now I am freezing once
again) But that's ok. Chris had to work Friday so I spent the day catching up on homework, I made a few phone calls as well but the time difference makes it a bit difficult, I didn't get to call most people that I wanted to, but I will work it out and try again next time I am there. That night we went to a chinese restaurant, where for a flat fee you can order anything on the menu and as much as you want. It was crazy, there was so much food! What a concept, no wonder the UK has the fastest growing obesity rate, I tell you what.
Saturday we went into town and I got some shopping done. There is a very cheap store called Primark that I am now in love with. 3 pairs of underwear, a bra, and two shirts for £14! that made me very excited. I needed some more warm clothes and some underwear to replace my yellow-dyed ones.
Sunday we did pretty much nothing, but it was really nice. Chris made me pancakes, but the pancakes here are more like crepes, with blueberries! And that night I caught a
train back and here I am once again.
Today we went on a day trip to Brighton. Which is the British beach town. Not sandy beach might I add, but pebbly. Which I quite liked, I was tempted to ask someone to bury me in the rocks, but they were wet and really cold. We took a tour of the Royal Pavilion which was the vacation home of some monarchs during the Georgian and Victorian periods. It was very strange for a Royal Palace and very elaborate. Everything was done it a tropical Asian influenced style. With dragon motif throughout. It is constantly in the process of being restored, but I am quite impressed with what they have done. After the tour we went to the peir and looked at all the expensive rides. Each token was a pound and most rides cost four tokens! which is ridiculous. So we got some food and watched a few people attempt to ride the bull. Which was totally rigged because the bull was the shiniest, smoothest, piece of plastic I have ever seen. Rel and Meredith only lasted about 5 seconds on their best go.
One thing I have to
mention... All the lamp posts on the pier were those round ball lights, but they were old so there were a lot of loose ones. The seagulls would land on these and it was very funny to try and watch them balance on them. One of them was particularly persistent and the classical music playing behind me made me feel like I was watching a short that you usually see right before a Pixar movie.
I'll try not to be as long before I blog again so I can be back up to my normal standards.
observation: I was already aware of this but I thought a few of you might find this interesting. Pants are called trousers, but underwear is called pants. Try explaining to someone that you only brought long 'pants' with you.
