We had a get together today and a chat about our trip over one of Philip Young's monster ham butties (they really do have to be seen to be believed!) and a latte. We finalised the days we will be making flights from Singapore to Kota Kinabalu and Kota Kinabalu back to Kuala Lumpur and we intend to book them next week. Both flights will be with Air Asia and are direct flights thankfully. Although we are still planning to stay in hostels in Kuala Lumpur & Singapore we have decided that we will stay in a hotel whilst in Borneo. The thought of sharing sleeping arrangements with upward of two dozen other bodies for the entire duration of the trip, I've got to say, had limited appeal!
I have also changed my plans with regards to diving too. Originally I had wanted to do a days diving at Sipadan but I received an email from Downunder today telling me that to dive there would involve,
'an internal flight to Tawau (45 Minutes Flight) and take an overland transfer to Semporna (approx. 1.5 hours drive) and stay at one of the dive resorts there in order to dive Sipadan and even then since diving at Sipadan is restricted to 120 divers per day you would not be guaranteed a diving permit'. Sounded quite a lot of bother when there are 49 dive sites closer at hand which all apparently have an abundance of marine life and corals so I'll be sticking a little closer to Kota Kinabalu and, although will book the dives in advance, will take advice on which dive sites once we are there.
8 weeks to go!
