The start of the first day's walk
Spent a delightful week in Dorset with Lynne and her sister, Jayne. We stayed in a olde worlde thatch cottage on the Athelhampton House Estate, not far from Dorchester. Being so near the coast I did a couple of days walking two stretches of the South West Coast Path. The first stretch was from West Bay to Charmouth which entailed a hike up two very steep cliffs; the first Thorncombe Beacon and then after recovering from that a steep hike up Golden Cap, the highest point on the South Coast at 626 feet. As you will see from the photographs the views were spectactular from both especially on such a sunny day

The weather on the second day of walking was pretty miserable and the walk from West Bay to Abbotsbury was a bit tedious during the latter half as not only was it raining but the walk alongside Chesil Beach was monotonous to say the least.

On the Thursday I got invited to the start of the Test Match at the Rose Bowl, Southampton which was badly affected by the weather. England only got to bowl 40 overs in the day but did mananage to put a dent

Managed a walk through the woods near to Thomas Hardy's Birthplace near to Stinsford and visited the birthplace which is now managed by the National Trust. You can see where Hardy got his inspiration for The Woodlanders and Under the Greenwood Tree. Whilst on the Hardy theme Lynne and I went to Max Gate in Dorchester which was Hardy's home during his latter years. This too is managed by the National Trust and the helpers there were extremely helpful and informative.

Towards the end of the week we were visited by family and friends and we all went out for a meal in the village of Tolpuddle being the village of the Martyrs. Busy week
