So in the immortal words of the group Slade - So here it is Merry Christmas , everyone having fun, ................we felt it was time to hit the road again . Suzy has been going stir crazy over the last few months. Just like us she wanted to be on the road again. We had being suffering cabin fever stuck inside. OK we have a new Camper stops book to peruse and our 2015 ACSI camping book has arrived but it is not the same sitting and reading at home in front of the Christmas tree rather than sitting and reading inside Suzy and being out and about. This weekend we headed out of town early on Saturday with one of Mike's friends from law school in Toronto and her fiancé to the Peak District for some camping and hiking. It was a struggle to figure out where we should go (the Peak District is a big hiking region in the English "mountains," three hours north of London near Manchester), but our lovely Australian friends Jas and Stu had the great idea of going to Edale. We originally were going to rent a car to get there, but since there was a train station near the campsite, we opted to take the train instead. A weekend walking in the Peak District comes highly recommended, so it was time for me to give it a go. We headed to Castleton, a small town in the Vale of Hope (aww lovely). We chose the Kinder Scout climb, first making our way up a dry(ish) river bed to the peaks plateau (the highest in the Peak District). There were lots of people following the same route (although apparently nothing like the ‘highway’ it is in summer). However, once the ascent is made, people disperse around the plateau, which is basically a bog. The peat bog on the Kinder Scout plateau is amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it.
