It has been a strange old week. We start off with a moment, that should have been a cause for national celebration. TFB was finally shown the door. Larry the Cat waved goodbye to another temporary resident in Downing Street and the Dilyn looked forward to a life closer to the suburbs. TFB has hinted of a possible return, but let us hope someone changes the locks in the meantime. After what she described as "the longest job interview in history", we drew the short straw and the Margaret Impersonator was invited to Balmoral by Her Majesty to form a government. We knew that the Queen was frail, but it still came as shock, when her passing was announced came on Thursday afternoon. As Paddington so correctly worded it, "Thanks for everything. Ma'am". Life is slowly returning to normal after four weeks on the road in Suzy. She is parked up - still dirty and in need of a wash. Inside things are still as they were when we came home. Cleaning is long overdue. Autumn is fast approaching. The mists have arrived in the early part of the mornings making it difficult to see a few yards in front of the car. The clocks change next week and with that move the mornings will become slightly lighter for a few weeks but the nights will draw in. House decorating has taken over from travelling but finally today we managed a trip out to a local windmill. A windmill in Derbyshire surely not. Visit to Ecclesbourne Valley Railway at Wirksworth to travel behind their hired in steam locomotive on their recently extended line to Duffield. Enjoyed our second breakfast of tea and bacon baps in the refreshment carriage. Train quite busy as the extension only opened recently and they had the visiting loco. The scenery is pleasent rather than spectacular, the short line to Ravenstor adds a contrast. We had been a few years ago when it was all that was on offer so did not revisit the High Peak Trail, Steeple Grange Railway or the Quarrying Exhibition.... read more
