Helllooo computer... civilization and WARM bed.
The past week has been filled with much to tell.
Last week was a mad rush to get things together for Solfest. Suddenly I was knee deep in about three different projects.. making bunting and a screen, making 100 sock poi and making a fairy costume for the'fancy' night at the festival.
Let it be said I NEVER want to see another sock poi. 20 kilos of rice and dozens if not hundreds of bits of socks all over the living room.. My thumb had a sore spot from how I tied the knots.
By Thursday evening we were still running in circles, throwing things in random bags, pulling damp laundry off the line and closing the windows... we still had to make three trips back to the house... we forgot the camera.. than the sandwiches and then we needed a screw driver.. so after 2 hours of TRYING to leave town and last min shopping we were finally on the road.
The trip there was beautiful with green rolling hills, herds of sheep, beautiful old houses and ancient stone walls. The small country roads were something out of a movie with
6 foot hedges on both side and barely large enough for 2 cars. That night the sky was fairly clear for England with just a few clouds in the sky which lead to an amazing sunset.
There are SO many towns here. Our map had about HALF of the towns on it.. and the map also had NONE of the little roads.. We ended up 2 hours later than anticipated.. and probably circled the damn festival site 3 times without even knowing it.
The weekend was awesome! The first night we got there a day early, two other people from the website were there and we made a camp fire sat back and enjoyed the kind of stars that you only get once every few years. The Milky Way really is something else.
The next day we ended up having to move EVERYTHING three times until the festival staff was satisfied with where we were. The rest of the DMP (do more poi) crew showed and we set up the workshops and got to work. It was amazing how many people were interested in it, we had everyone from little kids to adults to grannies spinning poi. Alot of people
left feeling happy and we were all left feeling a job well done.
Night times falls...
out comes the fire... the first evening was just the DMP crew spinning, Crazy, I've talked on the internet to some of these people for like a year if not more and seen pictures of them spinning and videos and watched them progress OVER the net and here we are sharing a brew and spinning fire together. Completely out of this world.
Second day at solfest I mooched around the sites and checked out the shops and different things that they had put up around the site including these 30 foot tall wicker woven people... a tree spirit garden and a weird magician of some sorts. There were street performers, one girl band, people on stilts spreading 'fairy dust' over you and everyone was dressed either as a pirate or a fairy. At night the fire spinning attracted a hundred people or so to watch the show as well as some other spinners who had seen our area that we had tapped off. We even had a 8 year old kid spinning fire staff!!! Later that night I went and checked out
the dance tent. Bright rave like decorations everywhere, UV lights wild costumes along with wild people and a wicked trance band. Danced until I could no more.
Following morning the wind was so bad the Gazebo regardless of guide lines starting to take off like a kite, had to be taken down, it poured rain off and on and I spent a majority of it in the tent to keep warm curled up with pillows and a Narnia book.
LATER.. got picked up by Mr.Gold who was able to get us home faster than it took to get there, drove through a tropical rain storm ( or so it seemed ) and arrived about 1am. Got to bed 2am... got up 9am and packed up the taxi and did another workshop at a kite festival.. let me tell you when we got home I couldn't move.. I'm still sore a day later.
Sooo yeah.. exciting stuff.. pictures tell a better story.
OH and I got a phone call whilst at Solfest, I TOTALLY got the job and start this week at Pachamama.. Looking forward to getting some money in my pocket and doing more exploring soon.
Cheers
Rolling hills
I remember seeing these wind thingys in Idaho with my parents when I was younger.. all.
