Background: Great Britain, the dominant industrial and maritime power of the 19th century, played a leading role in developing parliamentary democracy and in advancing literature and science. At its zenith, the British Empire stretched over one-fourth of the earth's surface. The first half of the 20th century saw the UK's strength seriously depleted in two World Wars. The second half witnessed the dismantling of the Empire and the UK rebuilding itself into a modern and prosperous European nation. As one of five permanent members of the UN Security Council, a founding member of NATO, and of the Commonwealth, the UK pursues a global approach to foreign policy; it currently is weighing the degree of its integration with continental Europe. A member of the EU, it chose to remain outside the Economic and Monetary Union for the time being. Constitutional reform is also a significant issue in the UK. The Scottish Parliament, the National Assembly for Wales, and the Northern Ireland Assembly were established in 1999, but the latter is suspended due to bickering over the peace process.

Casualty!

Matt got up and went for a surf fairly early this morning so I went over to Helen's camper for breakfast and spent the morning lounging around there. Meanwhile Matt came back sporting a beautiful black eye! He was complaining of dizziness and double vision so I took him off to the Royal Cornwall Hospital's A&E! After 4 hours, he's fine - just a badly bruised eye and slightly stretched muscles accounting for the double vision. Got back to the campsite and met Matt's parents! Don't think he told them about "us" which tells me something about where this is going...Had [View Full Entry]

Trevisker farm, with the new arrivals camper!
Sunday: still no sign of my keys, so went to the beach with Dave, Matt and Liam. They surfed, I sunbathed (oh ok, I mean I ogled the boys in the wetsuits!) Monday: Keys found! Someone found them hanging on a hook in the toilet block and gave them to Jez to give to me, hurrah!! Sat around on the campsite for a fair while, mostly trying to fend off Charlie who is still persisting in chatting me up. Shame really, if I hadn't got with Matt I would definitely be interested!! In the afternoon a new campervan came on to [View Full Entry]

After having breakfast with Matt I went off to St. Ives for the day - really lovely town! Bought lunch and a new bikini (well, I have someone to look hot for on the beach now!). Went to the Tate St. Ives gallery where I spent ages staring at this one painting by John Holsworthy - it was huge and amazing! They didn't have a postcard of it so I ended up spending an extortionate and regrettable amount of money on a book about him. Ah well. I might sell it on eBay later. Back at the campsite I packed away [View Full Entry]

[View Full Entry]

Maar was er uberhaupt regen...
...vonden van niet....

Got up afte a pretty sleepless night (chavs screeching around the campsite at 5am!) and hung around with the guys for a while then went back to sleep in the sun - didn't really sleep very much and burnt my face t'boot! Got up eventually and decided to go and visit Newquay - what a horrible place!!! Chavs as far as the eye can see! I cheered myself up out of my sleep-deprived mood by doing some shopping - got a dress from a surf shop and a couple of tops. Also checked my emails and got some lunch. Back at [View Full Entry]

Another very random but exciting day... Matt came over this morning and asked if I wanted to go to the laundrette, which I did, so we packed up our laundry and went off to Wadebridge. Laundrette was closed for refurbisment! We had lunch at a juice bar and then set off on a grand tour of B&Q's, Focus Do It Alls and other hardware shops to find a chainsaw blade. No I haven't turned into a chainsaw wielding maniac - Matt got sacked from his job at the garage after he skived off following the yert party, so him and Liam [View Full Entry]

I've pretty much decided on an indefinite stay here as the people I've met here are so great and I'm having so much fun that it would be a huge anti-climax to leave and be on my own again. Plus, Padstow is fairly central-ish so I can still visit all the places I would've done anyway, but just do them as day trips. After a lot of lazing around, I went into Padstow to use the internet in the Tourist Info office, had my first Cornish cornish pasty and generally did nothing in particular. Went to Pete and Paula's van for [View Full Entry]

Sorry I haven't written for a few days - been too eventful!! Left Lakefield at about 10.45am on Sunday morning - checked my bank balance and a direct debit must have come out or something cos I only had £4.01 left, plus a tenner in my purse! Fully prepared to spend the night in a layby on the A39 I didn't even bother looking for a campsite and instead drove to Padstow for a mooch around. Parked a short walk away from the town and walked aound the harbour and then on to the beach where I lazed in glorious sunshine [View Full Entry]
