Day 7 - Today has turned a little miserable weatherwise - rainy, foggy, cold - so slight change to our plans. Headed to Padstow, best known for Rick Stein, everything is his, from restaurants, cafes, deli's....etc. Great village on the river, which has massive tides. Had lunch in the pub and then off to our next destination of Port Isaac. Now for those who watch the ABC television series, Doc Martin, this is actually Port Wenn in the show. Photos around the tiny laneway's and in front of Doc Martins television home. A casual drive home through the fields and tiny laneway's, and as I was driving today, a little challenging with having to reverse back into a wider point or driveway as other vehicles approached. Pieces of soggy rabbit carcass splattered my face for the umpteenth time. My skin was drenched to the bone and my waterlogged shoes squelched with every step I made. Car horns beeped. When I raised my head to see why they were honking , I was met with an array of abusive hand gestures. Other vehicles purposefully drove towards me travelling at eighty miles an hour. I instinctively jumped further into the uneven grass verge. I tripped often, spraining my ankles. The weight from my backpack pushed my face into the wet grass, rotting roadkill and other rubbish. I stumbled, struggling to return to my feet. Shivering miserably, I wished I was anywhere but here. The rain was relentless. Spray from passing vehicles kept visibility on the treacherous A30 to a minimum. These weren't safe conditions ... read more

I have had a very enjoyable ride today following a very restful night at the B & B in Okehampton and a hearty breakfast. The weather has been fine with some wind but certainly less than yesterday. I have enjoyed a nice ride along the camel trail into Bodmin. My route took me over the old airfield at Davidstow where the cheese is produced and I saw signs of the shells of old wartime buildings. I did a few extra miles than planned today to make tomorrow slightly easier (hopefully) -which means my penultimate day will probably be about 60 miles. I have enjoyed Mevagissey this evening and have managed to find another good B & B. Jim... read more
