So, here I am back on my home soil. I spent all day yesterday travelling, I had the hassle of paying ‘safety fees’ at Dar Es Salaam when I had no money, I had to wait at Heathrow for 4 hours, and then BA lost my luggage somewhere. To be honest, I think I coped quite well with all that, but I had great difficulty trying to choose a chocolate bar at Heathrow, so much so that I gave up in the end! Who’d of thought I would get culture shock in my own country?! I felt so disorientated at Heathrow; I spent ages just wandering aimlessly. There were hardly any black faces, just mzungus everywhere, I started to get paranoid that people were staring at me and then I realised it was because I was carrying a rather large wooden giraffe around with me!

It is the small things that have been striking me…. Firstly there are streetlights! And tarmaced roads! I can actually drink water from the tap. And there is REAL cheese! I have in fact gorged myself on cheese and chocolate this morning… feeling a little sick now, but well worth it!

It was really cool to see my parents at Manchester airport, and my dog Jack. The best thing about coming home is seeing the people you have missed. But at the moment I feel like I’ve just woken up from a really long dream and I haven’t been away at all.
The people I have met and the experiences I have had in the past five months will stay with me for ever. I’ve had the most incredible time, and learned so much about myself, and about the world.

If you were a part of that experience, whether I met you along the way, or whether you have been reading my Blog and supporting me from back home, then I’d just like to say thank you. It wouldn’t have been the same without you!

"There’s a place that keeps on calling me,
Down the road that’s where I’ll always be,
With every stop I take I make a new friend,
Can’t stay for long, just turn around and I’m gone again.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll want to settle down,
Until tomorrow I’ll just keep moving on!"
(Littlest Hobo lyrics)

Cheers,
