I didn't sleep much at all Thursday night because I was soooo nervous and had horrible sicky feeling. Plus I didn't want to sleep much because I wanted to sleep loads on the extremely long flight to Lima..!
So about 3am I woke up and started trying to finish everything I needed to do (including rearranging my case so that it wasn't over the weight limit..). After about an hour I finally made my case the right limit (with my parents help). Felt really ill all the way to the airport, and had several moments of what the hell am I doing?! Quite surprised that I've actually done this on my own but I'm a lot braver than even I thought :P
After checking in my bag I said goodbye to mum and dad and started heading towards passport control etc. Got the little coach thing to the first plane, was looking for ages at which plane we were headed to, little did I know we were heading toward the dodgy old fashioned looking plane. Everyone around me was like "oh my god do we have to fly in that? we are so going down!" which didn't help my nerves.. it wasn't even a jet engine plane. It was much smaller than I expected too. And just looked really old! So I wasn't looking forward to getting onto it. Also when I got on the plane I couldn't fit my bag in the overhead compartments which was very embarrassing and the air hostess didn't look happy. My bag had to be put in back of plane in front of seats! Once I was in my seat I just tried to sleep, couldn't wait to be off that plane! The flight was fine although I think I slept most of it ( only a hour 30mins to Paris airport ).
After that plane journey I had to head straight to departure lounge for my next flight to Lima. It was such a rush I didn't get much time to panic about the fact that I had 12 hours to pass on the next flight. Had to get on another bus to the right lounge and was worried that I was going to be late. Once I got on the plane I tried to find my seat while lugging my huge and heavy hand luggage bag and trying not to hit people. This plane was much better, really big and nice seats, everyone had their own tv screens, extra blankets and eye mask. I slept quite a bit and watched several films on the screen. Food wasn't too bad..vegetable lasagna yum. And some other odd frenchy things. I got up several times to stretch my legs - as did everyone - got a bit worried about the whole blood clotting thing. I had my special long flight socks on but still! Strangely enough I didn't feel any more nervous on the flights than I would with friends/family, which I did expect to. It was cool because there was a programme you could select which showed you exactly where you were heading in the world and how many hours were left and what the time was in Lima. It was pretty weird getting on that plane at 10:40am and getting off 12 hours later with it being only about 5pm. I did panic a little bit every time the plane got rocky - I do get pretty nervous on planes I just try not to think about it. About half way through I started getting a bit irritable. Just wanted some space and fresh air! I also couldn't sleep well because it was pretty cold even with the blanket and my jacket on and really uncomfortable. So my sleep was on and off. But overall the flight was not as bad as I expected and passed quite quickly. Next to me on the plane was a man and woman with their baby and I felt quite sorry for them being on there with a young baby! She was quite good though only had a few cries. And she had her own little cot which they set up for her attached to the wall in front of us! They seemed really nice and helped me get my bag down at the end because it was hard to reach with everyone trying to get off the plane at once! (my bag wasn't next to me it was next to the family).
When I got off the plane I was preparing for any altitude symptoms even thought Lima is not very high but didn't feel much except slight breathlessness but I expect that was not helped by my massive bag. When we got into Lima we got given a piece of paper that said immigration on it and had to fill it out. I didn't have a pen so had to ask someone there..once I filled that out I headed toward passport control and after that went to get my baggage.
