As luck had it we stumbled across a Gumtree Ad from a Canadian couple who had a flat in Bristol but wanted to travel for a month in Europe, caught up with them and we bought ourselves another month of Bristol with our own flat ... a luxury to have our own place again! We stayed put here opposite Bristol Backpackers till the 15th of August.
Both found jobs. Neither really interested in them though. Andrew did go to one day of his at Ikea but walked out after walking in saying we weren't staying. Me, I never made it to mine, pestered by the recruiter I played the sick card for the first start date and then the not interested for the second, and still she kept on. Keen to get out of IT for awhile I tried a bookshop, but they thought I was insane I think to leave a good profession. Eventually I gave in and headed to another interview, in a place called Reigate in Surrey ... on the map it looked like the middle of nowhere but on the 9th August I took the 5.30am train to Reading and then across to Reigate, had the interview and headed back to Bristol to wait and see.
I did get the job, not too interested but we realised we needed to work and started arranging the move across. Starting with 5 lovely, never to be repeated nights in the Bristol Backpackers. Full to the brim, we got somewhere near the top floor - dragging all our stuff which had somehow increased by this stage - to some nice crusty old bunk beds. Probably the worst of the worst in backpackers, this place was yuck.
Sorted out our trip out of Bristol and where we were going to stay - Guildford YMCA or in a YHA just outside of a place called Dorking called Tanners Hatch. Tanners Hatch apparently had outside showers and was back to basics. Tanners Hatch was cheap. Guildford was not. Tanners Hatch it was to be.
