Another UK Farewell
Published: April 24th 2010Europe » United Kingdom » England » Berkshire » WokinghamOk, this entry is, again, going to be very rushed. I hope to get around to filling in more details at a later date. We’ve been back in the UK for about three and a half weeks and we’ve had a fantastic time. It’s been very busy, and we’ve been VERY spoiled! Aside from catching up with lots of family and friends we were also lucky enough to take a couple of quick trips with Matt’s parents. We spent a weekend going up north, to Suffolk and then to Matt’s aunt and uncle’s (Kay and Andy) house in Shropshire. The area where Kay and Andy live is gorgeous. We took a nice walk in the woods just down the lane from their house and went to a "market" which is like an American swapmeet with exceptional ... read more
Return to Blighty
Published: March 31st 2010Europe » United Kingdom » England » Berkshire » WokinghamSo...the current adventure began on February 23rd It was then that we departed from LAX, saying the inevitably weepy (me) goodbyes to cherished family, dear friends and colleagues, and our over indulged, much loved cat. Our feet first touched soil in Matt’s native land. After nearly two and a half years since our last visit we were quite happy to be back and cruising down “the wrong” side of the road. The first few days were spent kicking jet lag (me) and catching up with friends (Matt). Of course, certain food cravings needed to be satisfied. Kebab from Istanbul Grill for Matt, Gregg’s cheese and onion pasty for me! The events of the first weekend required me to leave the cosy warmth of the house and leave the jet lag behind. On Saturday we went to ... read more
I am working on uploading a few photos before I leave for India in 3 days. Well things are looking up, success at getting some photos added. I'll try to get the other photos of interest to some of my friends uploaded now. I will add the rest of some of the London photos and then in the next blog add photos of Gaye's property.... read more
Just managed to finish all the work before I head off (by about 5.30). Time to pack (very quickly - worryingly quickly given that this is a 4 month trip). and head down to the pub to see some friends I haven't seen for a very long time, who just happened to be passing through on my last night in Britain. Next entry will, I hope, be from a very long way away indeed.... read more
At Home Last full day at home before the next trip. Too many things to do, not enough time to do them all. There are so many projects to finish. Everybody has noticed that I'm away for 4 months and wanted me to do everything that I would have done in that time, but in the six weeks that I was around this autumn. Somebody's going to have to be disappointed. Time to concentrate on packing. As usual, there isn't enough space either. Intending to just take the 60 litre rucksack and a daysack on this trip. I'll see how I get on later in the day.... read more
Heavy night out - I must leave more often
Published: August 23rd 2006Europe » United Kingdom » England » Berkshire » WokinghamThis has to have been the most drunken leaving party. I met up in the evening with friends from Wokingham and I can just about remember most of it. I started the night by meeting friends in The Tavern. It's a nice petite bar, long, thin and sometimes a little claustrophobic but with a nice garden area. It was raining but luckily managed to hide underneath some cover. After several we headed over to The New Rose. There we met more people and I lost count of the drinks. For some reason I agreed to go to the local night club - well, it was an old haunt after all, shame not to say goodbye to that place too. Mostly I remember my friends pulling silly faces for the camera and discussing my travel plans with ... read more
Right life has settled down now a bit in the Uk. What with charging around everywhere trying to see friends, apply for courses and attend interviews. So I'm going to learn a bit of French in the beautiful city of Paris. Well I hope it is beautiful. With a dark Bohemian underbelly of course. After my 5 weeks course I think I may just do a bit of touring on foot across the French countryside. Everyone is welcome to join of course. So will keep you updated on all exciting events. Am very excited.... read more
So am back in the UK. Will be here for a little while now, although I find myself missing getting up and walking each morning. Has the Camino changed me? Yes I think it has. Not in my choice of path or direction. I guess it confirmed what I already knew to be true. It also has made me more than happy with who I am. Whenever I get down in the future I will look back to some of those days when I was on the Camino and realise that the way I have chosen, with my heart, was and is the right one for me. Plans to travel are still in the blueprint stage. I have to be hanging around Wokingham until probably early July. However, this is only a base where I can ... read more
