So I woke up at like 4 in the morning and couldn't get anymore sleep cause of stupid snoring so I just listened to my mp3 player til daddy got up to take a shower then I slept some while he was doing that but then he went back to sleep and then I listened to my mp3 player some more then at 6:15 I woke Cindy up and we went to get some breakfast. And yeah we didn't do much until around 11 am... we got to see this glacier museum and it had a mirror maze in it too [View Full Entry]

It is widely known, the general consensus of Europeans is "The Swiss are rude". Can't prove this by me as I have yet to meet a rude Switzer. Perhaps the European's mistake the pride.... & proud they should be! A glorious country! Clean clean clean. Pride in their shops, pride in their homes, pride for their public parks & waterways, etc! Even construction sites are impeccably kept. Trees pruned, lawns neatly manicured, clean air, healthy looking people, GREAT food & so much more! Switzerland, not being a member of the European Union, takes great pains to remain separate. They still use [View Full Entry]

Ftan, part 3

Well, I am home after a long and exciting month. The rest of camp was, as usual, crazy but fun. There were times I wanted to crawl into bed and sleep for a week, but more often than not, I shared the kids' energy and was really grateful for the time I had there. After the first two weeks, that group of kids left, and a second group came. We called the first two weeks the "Italian session" because it consisted of mostly Italian kids, and the second two weeks was nicknamed the "German session." The German school system gets out [View Full Entry]

For the last few days we have been in Interlaken, Switzerland, which is at the base of the giant Swiss Alps. It definitely feels like authentic Switzerland out here with huge mountains, the best tap water in the world, mountain goats and other livestock around every corner, and of course, good ol’ alpine cheese! We started our adventures with a cruise around Lake Thun, which is one of the two major lakes that Interlaken is sandwiched between, hence the name Interlaken. David and I could not believe the color of the water. It was the brightest teal we had ever seen. [View Full Entry]

So with a lack of sleep we got breakfast early in the morning. It was a good breakfast buffet. Then we tried to figure out some stuff to do but decided to rest a bit more before doing something. After awhile of rest, we got some ice cream at the gas station. I got Swiss Chocolate ice cream and it was yummy. Then the girl who was at the hotel desk, since her shift was over and she was driving to the city, offered to give us a ride. During that ride I discovered that Switzerland is the first place in [View Full Entry]

The homestead was very rural... it was a miracle we found it!
I know that this entry is a long time coming, but I feel like I finally have a minute to sit back and process all that I experienced when David and I visited Ardfert, Ireland. For those of you who are unfamiliar, my grandmother, Catherine (Harris) Corwin was born and raised in Massachusetts, USA and then moved to the Pacific Northwest after she met my grandpa, Philip Corwin. Her parents and grandparents were from Ireland. Growing up, that’s about all I knew about my families heritage on that side. While David and I were in Ireland this July (wow that seems [View Full Entry]

Well, by Friday, we'd had quite enough of France so we decided to drive down to Switzerland in the hire car for the day! WOW!!!! Berne was lovely (the old town) and then we went onto Interlaken - amazing! AA called to say Ollie was getting a new starter Motor on Monday so we decided to leave France for the weekend and find a place to stay in Interlaken. Saturday - check out of France and go back to Switzerland. Stayed in a lovely hotel called Silberhorn which looks so pretty. Interlaken area is spectacular!!!! Surrounded by the Alps and [View Full Entry]

Sunday, August 10th - We started the day as usual with everyone meeting in the hotel parking lot. While standing there, a group of bikers rode in on their Harleys and when they saw us milling about one of them returned to his bike to lock his saddle bags. Tom Marrin commented to him that he noticed the rider locked the bike when it was evident there were Americans standing around. It turned out the bikers were very friendly and on a cruise from Geneva. They let Carolyn and Hilda pose for pictures on their bikes. The group split into two [View Full Entry]

Saturday, August 9th - A most amazing day. Our good friend and cousin Marianne Vogt arranged for the travelers to visit with local residents in their homes for lunch or dinner and then some! Deb and I had lunch with Mathilde and Ernst Amstutz in their Sigriswil home. We had a great meal including vegetables from their garden, a fine French wine and enough dessert to blow the Weight Watchers program for the week! Others spent the evening with local farmers high in the hills where they sampled the local cheese and snapps :-) [View Full Entry]
