On the train to Lugano... As we're passing Lake Como, am thinking about coming back to visit it, but I have a feeling that Lugano is the Swiss version. The scenery is gorgeous, all mountains and water. Only two months are left in this adventure, and now the time is starting to go fast. I have so much left to do! I find myself thinking more and more in terms of "when I come back..." It makes it a little easier to look at all the things passing me by that I don't have time for ... We got into Lugano around noon and spent a pleasant afternoon. It really was a nice break from the city. Lugano is one of those towns in which every street goes uphill, so we definitely worked off our lunch. ... read more

I am in Zermatt to snowboard the matterhorn, unfortunately it is -15c on the low mountains (thats the high) so I will not be going too high (it was -35c on the higher portions) I took a train from Munich here, once we got into Switzerland the mountains were incredible, somany high peaks covered in snow. It is a beautiful country. I hope to have some pictures if my camera doesnt freeze. After snowboarding tomorrow I will take a night train to Rome to see Nadja a good friend I havent seen in 4 years. Snowboarding was pretty great, my rental equipment left a little to be desired but the setting mde up for it. It was pretty cold but not horribly so. The mountain range is huge and you can ski all over the place, ... read more

Date: 31.12.2004 Destination: Zurich, Switzerland Day: 5 We reached Zurich early in the morning. We had a few hours to look around before heading to Interlaken so after exiting from the train station, we walked straight to the old town. There are a lot of boutiques and posh shops around, but nothing original to Switzerland. We were hungry so we find some cheap food in the old town but to no avail, the cheapest food, a kebap costed around RM30! No choice but to eat it. Zurich is very peaceful and clean, feels like an isolated mountain town from the world, with the snowy mountains around. As we walked further to Grossmuenster Cathedral, we saw just a normal small church. Maybe the 4 tiring days of touring Italy had taken its toll, so we were now ... read more

Anyone out there a Stephen King fan? Then you should know his piece “The Langoliers”, which also made it to the big screen. For those of you who don’t: Big airplane with destination somewhere on the US mainland. All of a sudden most of the people on the flight have vanished, with a few “lucky” ones left to their destiny. Manage to land the plane on some mysteriously abandoned airport surrounded by mountains (probably somewhere in Maine, considering it’s Stephen King…). No people, no communications, no other planes, not even any smells or sounds on the airport - completely dead. Dead, except for the langoliers coming closer and closer from the mountains. Langoliers are some flying evil creatures with big teeth. To speed up the story a little bit: the people from the plane (obviously) manage ... read more

We took a trip up to Lucerne, Switzerland from the 17th to the 23rd of December. We figured it would be nice to be in a winter wonderland. We had a great time, saw a lot of beautiful things, and froze our butts off. Lucerne is a really neat little tourist town set by a lake in an absolutely breathtaking environment. Parts of the town date back to the 14th century, and have an absolutely medieval feel to them. Our first couple of days in Lucerne were spent looking around the town and enjoying the local sites. It was cold and rainy, so whenever the weather would clear up, we would head out to check something new out. We saw the Lion Monument which was very pretty (even if it could use a cleaning). Then ... read more

I wasn't leaving Switzerland without skiing. However, that early in the season, the only people out were experts, well, except me. I struggled down the mountain a couple times. This is no little hill. Then it was snowing hard and I couldn't handle it. I thought I was going to die the last time down. Ok, so I probably wasn't that close to death, but still,.... Skiing in Switzerland- check.... read more
