Contingency plans were made at breakfast today and resulted in Dan heading for the nearby mountains to trek for several hours and me to the fascinating local area to walk and browse as I pleased, around the old city. Having covertly made lunchtime breadrolls from the hotel buffet, we packed our bags with goodies, water and sunscreen. Dan left me in charge of procuring the train tickets for our next few days of travelling, which I did quite easily at the local train station. The grocery store there yielded toothpaste and a gorgeous punnet of fresh raspberries - light, tangy and refreshing. The Swiss military sent some broght red jets overhead to remind us of where we were, their manoeuvers sent everyone looking to the skies.

I set off wandering around the river banks, where the local marketeers displayed wonderfully coloured roses, fresh veges and pots of herbs. Then the medieval turrets and city wall beckoned, I met up with the long haired cow again though could not get a photo as she refused to show me anything except for her tail end! Sitting by the Reuss, I sampled a Starbucks coffee and found it was acceptable though almost cold.... The local ducks and swans provided amusement as they tried to build nests from the numerous large twigs that swirl down the rapidly flowing waters. Today I actually bought a few souvenirs, the Swiss shops seem to have quality that is lacking elsewhere.
