In the famed “Most Breathtaking Country” Contest, judged by the Charters, Norway now has a new fierce competitor: Switzerland. Wow, is Switzerland amazing. We went there for a week partially to celebrate my birthday (which somehow keeps coming faster and faster) and to just have a relaxing getaway. We stayed in a small town, Adelboden, in the Alps.
Among the many enjoyable parts of our stay were view of the mountains from our room, really friendly townspeople, being able to get into the mountains for a hike in only a few minutes, Swiss cheese (yum), and Swiss chocolate (double yum). Switzerland also boasts the worlds cutest lawnmowers: there are hundreds of cows everywhere, munching away! They wear bells and all day there is a lovely chiming sound in the distance. We took chairlifts that go from mountain to mountain, went up probably one of the steepest trains in the world—it went straight up a 7749 foot mountain, and got to see a waterfall from the top and bottom. We were literally above the clouds on some days, and for a girl who doesn’t love heights, this was quite a feat.
Among the more hilarious moments was the coed sauna
where unexpectedly all were sans clothes and the faces made after putting an innocent seeming food into our mouths, that actually was, well, not our favorite.
WaterfallThe white line in the middle of the mountain in the waterfall. We also went to the top of this mountain.
Our first day hiking...On our first day hiking, we took chairlifts from mountain to mountain. You can see them in this photo--some go very high in the air.
Ack!Scary chairlifts!
AdelbodenOur hotel is the tall yellow one in the middle.
Hiking and MountainWe hiked through Adelboden and as a reward go to go up a very steep chairlift to the top of the waterfall mountain. In this pic we are hiking through town.
Cows!I am going to try to restrain myself from posting hundreds of cow pictures, but boy are they cute with their bells!
More wildlife...Yup, those little dots are bees. Imagine our surprise (panic) when we found this colorful little hut!
