So after a very pleasant buffet breakfast at our hotel, we were delivered to the train station and took off around 8.00 for our journey back to Zermatt on a regular train – no Glacier Express today! Our train ironically ended up taking us through Zurich on the way, so we waved at our apartment briefly, knowing our bed tonight was far from there! Arrived in Zermatt around 3.00 and promptly bought tickets for another train, this one ascending the mountain pass towards the Matterhorn. Seeing as we were so close, we wanted to see it, and we did!

The train took us up to an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet. Spent a few minutes admiring the mountain, and then took another train back down to town. It was dark by the time we returned, so we hit up a couple of stores that we had scoped out the day before, and then bought another set of train tickets, this time to Täsch so we could pick up our car.

The next leg of our journey was a 3 hour drive from Täsch to Geneva. No time for dinner, have to make sure we get there before 11.00 or we won’t be able to check in! Made it around 10.00 after a small snafu with the GPS. It seems that the one we took along does not have the France maps loaded, and our hotel is apparently not exactly in Geneva, but just across the border in France. We found a street with the same name in Swiss Geneva, so we thought the street probably continues on from Switzerland into France. It does not. But we made it courtesy of the GPS that is in our car that we did not pay for. Thank you Europcar! Now Jon is out searching for something to eat so we don’t starve to death or break into the Swiss chocolate that we are supposed to bring home with us 😊
