As the last days have shown clearly, summer is finally over and autumn has started. Summer here in Switzerland this year was a sad affair - it started rainy and continued like this through june and july, it was cold most of the time, but since august, it was brilliant and hot. As we had a lot of work to do, we did not travel much and mainly stayed at home. But hey, this was our first summer in our new home. And as we live where others come for holiday, it was just brilliant to enjoy a summer at home. Therefore, we had decided to explore the mountains close to our home. Some of them are indeed walking distance from home. Others are a short drive of about 20 minutes. Yes, although when you live ... read more

A visit from South Korea We were a bit scared when our friend Minji from South Korea wrote us that she will visit us by the end of september. It can be already really cold then and the weather might be really bad. And what can we do with bad weather in the mountains - not to much. But we stayed positive and were really looking forward for Minji's visit. But before, we had lots to do. We had just moved into our new flat and were still living in between all the boxes. So we had to hurry up to get everything ready before Minji's arrival. Well, let's not talk about sour muscles and long nights ;-). In fact, we did not know each other very well. We met about 1,5 year ago in a ... read more

It's been a wet day so a day to find alternatives to hiking or exploring up high. We took the car into Interlaken Ost and then walked through to Interlaken West. It gave N&K and chance to see Interlaken and it's centre. It is graced by magnificent hotels and lovely elegant building as well as the intermidable shops selling watches and other souvenirs. Not all of it is tacky and there are some high class shops to look at along the way. We were going to get the boat down Lake Thun but the next one was too far away so we opted to get the train there and the boat back. Once in Thun we checked the time for the boats back to Interlaken rather than doing our usual thing and finding we'd just missed ... read more

Once again, I allowed God the honour of waking me up that morning - who needs an alarm clock when you have the Holy Spirit? It was a beautiful sunny day and the panoramic view before me when I drew back my curtains was breath-takingingly beautiful. It was also great motivation to get ready and start the day. At 8:00 before breakfast I decided to take a walk - being outside with such a great view before me gave me a different kind of closeness to God - His might, power and majesty and at the same time, I kept thinking, this same God who made these huge mountains, loves me! The breakfast table conversation that morning soon turned to the night before, when Alana had been filled with the Holy Spirit and how later God ... read more

Today we decided on another try for a boat trip on Lake Thun. Our last one was sort of abbreviated as we missed the boat and only got half the lake. Today we did a round trip. About 4 1/2 hours. It was one of those "save this day in a bottle" days. So we were blessed with blue skies and warm breezes. Since we were always on the boat I won't have the variety I would like but I hope you won't be bored I wish you all could experience these mountain lakes with the azure blue waters. Time is getting short now and the weather is changing here. Another season is approaching and we must prepare to depart. I hope we will be able to do a few more blogs before we leave from ... read more

Yesterday was a wet and cool day so no mountains. A good day for shopping and looking around Thun which we did. Thun is a great town to visit at the end of Lake Thun with it's river bisecting and running through, the old town and the castle. I need add no more than that but if interested, check it out on the internet. We've visited many times before and always enjoy it. Today, we're still in gloomy weather in the mountains but okay in the lower areas so we headed to Aeschi which is a small village in the hills between Spiez and Frutigen. We haven't been here before and there are many trails around the vicinity. We took a bus from Speiz to Aeschi then walked along the hills above Lake Thun then down ... read more

Since the morning was spent in the village (Saturday) we took the train in the afternoon to Speiz and debated walking through to Thun. However, it was a bit late for that distance so we took the easy answer and walked from Speiz to Faulensee instead. We remembered this as being a very pretty walk from a past trip, but then, it poured with rain. This time it was quite serene. On arriving at Faulensee we caught the boat to Thun. We were fortunate enough to get the new boat called the Berner Oberland and it is very nice indeed. Once the boat called back across the lake to Gunten, we continued to stop along the coast to Oberhofen, Hilterfingen and Hunibach before arriving at Thun. These last three places are superb. The gardens along the ... read more
