I'm slightly frustrated....I just wrote a really long and detailed blog about how surprising and beautiful Amsterdam was....then when I tried to publish it, my internet crashed and it was all lost....
I took an overnight train last night and didn't sleep too great, so this minor setback is causing me more frustration than it should and it makes my loathe to retype it all...
so, i'll hit the highlights;
Amsterdam is pretty.
There are nice trees.
We did couchsurfing.com for the first time and had a great experience staying with a local who lived in a very quiet, family neighborhood about 30 minute walk from the center of town....really great.
There are 1300 canals and 2500 house boats within the city.
Van Gogh Museum was incredible.
red Light District was seedy and we generally avoided all the tourist areas for the 3 days we were there except for about a half hour stroll.
the old parts of the city are really amazing, unique, and beautiful.
Maybe our favorite city? We were both surprised by that, but it is really colorful and beautiful and surprised us with how much we both liked it.
Also, big thanks to Diana and her family in Germany for a fabulous Easter!
We're in Geneva now; going to see alicen's friend, Theano, who she met 8 years ago in college in Japan.
off to Rome on Saturday.
