Well, vacation time is almost here. One more day of school and then we will be driving to Holland and then to Germany. I am looking forward to my time off. I can't believe that it is already April. Last week, I had my last hockey practice. I was a little sad because I love playing hockey, but it will be nice not to have to drive 30 minutes each way and it will be nice to get some more sleep. That hockey season went fast. Last week, we were getting ready for the "Troc de printemps." This is a glorified garage sale that was put on by the parents' association in the town of Bernex, just outside of Geneva. We put some of our items in the sale. We were just wanting to get rid ... read more

Well - what a great weekend! We left right after school Friday and we drove to Interlaken. The reason for our trip to Interlaken - to see the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. To do this, we needed to take trains up the Alps to the "Top of Europe," as it is called once you make it up to 3454 meters. This is Europe's highest railway station. I love the mountains. The main reason that I wanted to see these mountains is because I saw a documentary on the plane ride over about the north wall(face) of the Eiger. The Eiger is 3970 meters above sea level and since 1935, at least 64 climbers have died trying to climb the north face of the Eiger. We, however, got to take the easy way up - on ... read more

Well, after a cold snap in February, the weather has sure been nice in March. By the weekend, it will get up around 20 degrees Celcius. I have been sweating in my classroom, that usually doesn't happen until June in St. Albert. Hopefully I won't stink the students out too bad. Time has been flying by - as usual. I can't believe that we are in the last trimester of school. I have finished the second round of report cards and we are on the home stretch. Thanks to Denis having a Toyota, we were able to go to Geneva's 82nd International Car Show. It was neat to be able to go and see a bunch of nice cars. The only problem - there were people everywhere. It was hard to get through the crowd at ... read more

Well, it has been a week and a half back at work since our little Rome escapade. We haven't done too much since being back from Rome. We had to take Denis' car in for the routine service and oil change. In turn, they supplied us with a 1989 Toyota Starlet. It was lipstick red. It made be think of my dad's old Toyota Tercel that had 470 thousand kilometers on it (or so). The funny thing about this Starlet was that there was only 135 thousand kilometers on it. It should be good for another 25 years. Obviously, living in the Canton of Geneva, one wouldn't put near as many kilometers on a vehicle as in Canada. However, we did get a picture of that sweet car that we had for the day. Also, it ... read more

After being in Rome over the past week, I can definitely understand why Rome wasn't built in a day. While in the heart of Rome, I got the sense, that in terms of building things, it was either go big or go home. There were a lot of great things to see in Rome. We didn't have time to see everything, because of our time constraints and also for the fact that we were travelling with 2 small children. However, Isabelle and Myles were great travellers and we were able to do a lot while in Rome, even though we had to go back to the hotel each afternoon for Myles' nap. He gets snappy without his nappy! Day one - Trevi Fountain (26 meters high and 20 meters wide) - This was a huge fountain ... read more

Well, over the last week, I have to say that I have been feeling more at home. The cold has come - and stayed and the snow has stayed for longer than 2 days. The snow has been here for a week and it shows no signs of disappearing. To me, this is a welcome change. Finally, winter has come. To the citizens of the canton of Geneva, it is the worst cold spell since 1985/1986. I guess that they can blame this cold snap on me. I must have brought the Canadian weather with us to Geneva. For me it is normal winter weather. For my colleagues, it is colder than a cold-certified Coors Light can. Just to give you an idea, Saturday was -10 degrees with a windchill of -17 degrees. When I was ... read more

Over the past couple of weeks we have been trying to plan our holidays for the rest of the year. Here, I am blessed to have a fair bit of holidays. I have a week off in February, a week and a half off in April and then we will be in Europe for the month of July as well. So, for 4 days during my week off in February, we have decided to go to Rome. I think that this will be a good time to go - it won't be so hot. I think that Italy is quite hot in the summer. I can't believe that it will be a little under 2 weeks and then we will be in Rome. We are definitely excited. Saturday, Avery got her hair done, so the kids ... read more

This past weekend was a bit calmer. It was nice to relax and stay more or less in one place. We did however venture in to ValThoiry in Thoiry. We did some grocery shopping and booked a summer trip. We booked 4 days and 3 nights at Euro Disney. We got the package where all of the meals are included. I am looking forward to this. Not having to do dishes or prepare meals. It will be a nice way to wind up the school year. We are going from July 1st to 4th. After Myles had his nap, we then went to an art exhibit in Carouge. One of the members of our church took up painting after her children were grown. She has an exhibit on and all of the proceeds are going to ... read more

Well, we had a great weekend, but a busy one. Friday, I was able to go out with my colleague's for a cheese fondue at Bains des Pâquis - just on the opposite side of the Jet d'Eau on Lac Léman. It was a neat place. You place your order for the fondue and then the waiters walk down the restaurant shouting your name until they find the person that the fondue belongs to. Also, to help with digestion, while eating a cheese fondue, you shouldn't drink water. Supposedly it doesn't sit well with the warm cheese. Instead, you are encouraged to drink wine. Maybe, that's just another excuse to drink wine ;) Naturally, in true Swiss fashion, supper lasted 2 and a half hours and then my colleagues wanted to go out for after supper ... read more

Well, the honeymoon is over. It is back to real life after a two week holiday. It was nice spending Christmas in a different country. The second week of the holidays we did a lot of travelling. I mean a lot! We were almost living in our vehicles. It all started Friday, December 30th when we drove to Basel. This was almost a 300 km journey from south to north. Thank goodness that mom and dad have a GPS. We almost never got lost, besides human error on the way back from Liechtenstein. Anyways, in Basel we walked around the old town after arriving Friday afternoon. Then on Saturday, before heading to the Lucern area, we went to a toy museum in Basel. The general consensus on Basel was that it was a neat city. It ... read more
