Well, the title of my blog is certainly true. It has rained for the good part of April - whether that be the Netherlands, Germany or Switzerland. We have definitely been getting our fair share of rain. However, all of the flowers that are around are beautiful and they give off such a wonderful scent.
The past week and a bit has been fairly busy around these parts. We have celebrated 2 birthdays, gone to a milk festival, did some hiking, did some shopping and went to the United Nations. We celebrated Myles birthday April 26. It was just the four us but we had a great time. Avery decorated the appartment with balloons and we had some presents and a cake. Myles had a great day and Isabelle was sure helpful with opening up the presents. I think that Myles favorite present was a Tow Mater Lego truck set that is able to shoot darts out of the back of the truck. We also bought Myles some clothes from the Gap when we were in Rome, but he had no interest in those - typical boy.
Over the weekend after Myles' birthday, we went to a milk festival
Myles B-Day.
Opening presents. in Plan-les-Ouates at the building Laitiers Réunies de Genève. This was a great time to try some flavoured milk and different kinds of cheeses. We were also able to hear a cow-bell procession as well as a musical done using the alphorn (alpine horn). It was neat going to this festival. The kids liked riding the plastic cows the best.
After the milk festival, we went hiking to the Salève - which is Geneva's mountain. It is called Geneva's mountain, but it is actually in France. This was fun and we had some good views over the city of Geneva. We took the hiking backpack for Myles, but he was too stubborn to go into it. He wanted to hike for himself and he did a great job for a 2 year old. He was hiking up rocks and steep sections. However, he is distracted by every little thing, so hiking with him is about as slow as molasses in January!
I was then back to school with the students Monday and I had Tuesday off. It was a local holiday for Geneva. It was also the day that my mom flew back to Geneva. My dad is
following next week. They are back to visit for the second time - which is nice. However, we all know that they are not here to see me or Avery, they are here to see the kids. They miss them so much. So, yesterday was a relaxing day hanging out with Avery, the kids and my mom.
Today we celebrated Avery's birthday. My mom arrived just in time. She babysat the kids while Avery and I went into Geneva for the day. We started off with a tour of the United Nations. It was interesting. However, we had to do the tour in French. I had to translate for Avery. There are only 4 official tours a day and it just so happened that the 10:30 am tour was in French. We enjoyed the tour and all of the things that we learned. We wish that we would have been able to wander around a little bit by ourselves to check out the paintings and such, but we weren't allowed. Everyone's on high alert. I guess that they didn't trust us. There were a couple of times that we were thinking of sneaking into a delegates meeting to steal
some croissants and represent Canada. We thought better of it though!
After the United Nations, we went out for lunch and then we were shopping in Old Town Geneva and along the Rive. We got in a lot of walking and checked out a lot of shops. We were also looking at purchasing some Swiss watches as souvenirs. We found a lot of watches. However, I cannot justify spending the same amount of money on a watch that you would spend for a new or used car. There are cheaper Swiss watches though. We didn't just look at all of the expensive ones.
We took public transit today to get around. On the way home, you would have thought that we were back in Paris. The tram was jam packed and it was really busy on the buses as well. It was a sigh of relief to get back to Avully into the wide open spaces. We felt like we could breathe again.
Time has been flying! I can't believe that it is already May. And I guess that I have to go into to work tomorrow. Mom, Avery and the kids will be frolicking around and
I will be at work. Oh well, such is life.
