today we packed it in and took the train where a friend picked us up. we went to a viking museum and church - viking burial ground where cheiftans were buried under hugh mounds I think with their ships and assorted stuff. then we went to the university and to the kings palace and then over to Gabor's house for dinner. His wife is from Srilanka and fixed us a home town dinner. great and now we're at the hotel. [View Full Entry]

29/6/09 We arrived back in Uppsala in the early afternoon. Our friends had made plans to go for a swim at the lake, which sounded great as it was quite hot. We got ourselves organised and drove down, Linnea had her mum's fancy black convertable car and Karen went with her. It's funny how Scandinavians make the most of what little Sun they get by flocking to small, grassy/muddy beaches. We had a nice swim, relaxed in the Sun and took a stroll through the surrounding area. 30/6/09 Tuesday was in the lead up to our final days in Sweden, and [View Full Entry]

Good times!

After two and a half months in Sweden I felt the need to spread my wings a little outside the confines of Stockholm and its inner archipelago (well, Vaxholm to be precise). New partner in crime Rachel was up for a weekend away so we set off to Sweden’s fourth largest city, Uppsala. Uppsala is a city famous for its university, its cathedral and as the long-time home of Carl Linnaeus (for the forgetful scientists among you he was the one that invented the system of binomial classification that is still used in identification of plan [View Full Entry]

Overview We mainly came to Uppsala to meet some friends (by proxy) for Midsummer's Eve. It was a great party, and everyone has been wonderful. We've even had some nice sunny weather which has been just dandy! The first half of our time here we spent with Jen, and she's been really good to us. She's shown us around and explained the history of the town. She also organised a night at Buddy's bar to introduce us to everyone. Thanks Jen, you rock! 17/6/09 We reluctantly left Jonas' place just before midday, having packed our lives into our packs yet again. [View Full Entry]

I arrived in Uppsala safe and sound with a little help from Oskar and Anna. If they had not agreed to drive me to the train station, I would have had to drag my huge bags two miles along the road in the pouring rain so I was very happy for their help! Uppsala is a university town with about 200,000 people so it is significantly larger than Mora. The hospital is a University Hospital so the doctors are used to teaching people. The hospital itself is very large and is comprised of over 20 different buildings so it was a [View Full Entry]

Hi, we made it to Sweden and are in great shape. Everyone has gone to bed already because the only problem was that no one got much sleep. The trip was excellent. When we were driving up hear Evan said this is now his new favorite fun day ever! That's pretty amazing after 18 hours of travel and me saying "don't touch that!" 30 times already. Norah was very excited when we got to Sweden. "We're in SWEDEN?!?!"We decided not to push our luck and watched the disney channel in our room and brought in food from the restaurant. We are [View Full Entry]

A Family Affair Europe » Sweden » Uppsala County » Uppsala
The festive season is a time to celebrate with family. After a wonderful Christmas in Sweden in 2007, we were thrilled to be invited to spend another Christmas with Maria's parents, especially as it would be Liam's first visit from Santa. This year though, the Nylund family were almost outnumbered by Aussies as Adam's parents and Kyrie came from Australia to celebrate the festive season. For the first time in almost three years the three Odell children and their parents were together again for some family holiday fun! Long before Christmas though, the festive season got off to a flying st [View Full Entry]

The pre-holiday in Sweden went really fast, too fast for my liking. The last three days was very eventful, Kajsa and Mike came up from Linkoping, on Friday, just after Steve had managed to chop a bit of his finger off whilst chopping the peppers for the evening meal. Kristina (my mum) felt extremely guilty, because she was the one that had asked Steve to help out in the kitchen, Erik (my dad) was on the other hand very proud of the sharpness his knife (only kidding). The rest of the night Steve had to sit with his arm straight up [View Full Entry]

So its a myth that its either sunny or snowy here in Sweden! Its the first time I've been here in November and the weather is the same as we left back in England. So what do you do on a rainy winters day here in Sweden....go to a hockey game! Almtuna (Uppsala's team) v's Vestaras...a local derby game and my first proper hockey match. Almtuna took the lead in the first third only for Vasteras to pull level in the second, setting up a real battle in the final third. The local team managed to squeeze in a long range [View Full Entry]
