We spent the last two days in Stockholm, Swedens capital.
The first day we walked around Gamla Stan, the old town, which is very beautiful and historic but expensive also. We found a place in our travel book that recommended eating reindeer meat. We followed their advice and couldnt believe we had to spend 23 Euros on one plate. We did it anyway. Our new mantra: We're only here once! So we shared a plate and it was definetely an experience. I loved the Strogat, which is a little pedestrian street in Gamla Stan, where a lot of cafes and little shops sit next to another. We walked around the whole four islands of Stockholm, posed with the guards at the palace and hung out at the harbour. We were pretty tired in the afternoon. This is when we met up with Martin, our couchsurfer. He lives in Farsta, a little out of the city center. Martin was a wonderful host, he gave us his key and said he would live with his girlfriend the time we stay here 😊 His appartement is small but very cute and we were happy to have a real bed to sleep in, electricity and a bathroom where you dont have to pay for every minute of hot water like at the camping site. We rested for a while, made a salad and soup and watched French Kiss. Since we were just in Paris, a fun movie to watch. Then we got ready to go to the Absolute Icebar. Its at the Nordic Sea Hotel. We arrived, got jackets and gloves and went inside the -5 degree igloo. We got a cocktail each at the frozen bar. Mine was named Absolute Summer -haha. We got it surved in glasses made out of ice. They just make piles of ice-glasses an then melt the used ones. It didnt seem cold at the beginning but it was pretty freezing after a while. Besides us there were only tourists from America, Germany and China. We took a million pictures, drank our cocktail and then left after only half an hour. Since we loved the ice-glasses so much we decided to take one with us 😉 We are leaving it in Martins freezer with a bottle of German beer as a thank you present :D
The second day, we wanted to do something more authentic. We walked down the Drottmingg street which is a shopping street and Adam once again was phascinated by Topshop (they have a mens departement 😉 ). We bought postcards and walked along Stroget down to Södermalm. From the top of this outlook we could see over all of Stockholm. The weather was warm and sunny. We are really lucky sofar. We walked down Götgatan which turned out to be my favourite place. Also the streets around Medborgarplatsen were incredible! Cafes, Bars, smal corner shops selling all kinds of cool crafts and handmade clothes. Martin met us there for a few drinks and we went bar hopping. The bars were as different as they could be. First we went to a place called Carmens where young alternative people met up for cheap drinks. We had a Swedish bier there and then went on to Vampire Lounge, which serves Stockholms best cocktails to a hip crowd. Last, Martin took us to a small bar named Garlic and Shots where he told us about Swedish Metall 😉
We got home a little tipsy and tired after all that we had seen and done. Now we are getting packed after a great french toast breakfast that Adam made while I was working on the blog 😊 Oslo coming up...
