Sweden - Hedonist: 1-0. Things have been rough lately. Let me illustrate what I mean by pasting in parts of what this entry looked like when I first wrote it: “I've been waiting to write here again. Waiting for things to improve, waiting to feel better. I didn't want to crush my image of content aloofness, inner strength and at times nearly maniacal bliss. Not only the image you might have of me, but more importantly, the image I have of me. The person I can relate to, the person I feel is really me, she would never write an entry like the one that's being composed here. She would never fall this far, she would never crash this hard. She would never go to sleep wishing she had Valium to take the edge of ... read more
The ubiquitous and equally mysterious authority that we commonly refer to as “they” claim everything bad brings something good with it, and generally I'm with them. But then there are times when the positive effects of a situation are so hard to spot that one almost loses faith in the adage, and not surprisingly my deportation - still fresh in my memory - springs to mind as the perfect example of such occasion. It was pretty damn hard to grasp just how that particular personal catastrophe would turn out to be beneficial to me. Still blogging - 20 countries 20 pictures
Published: November 6th 2009Europe » Sweden » Skåne » MalmöWe are back into the grips of reality. It is good to see all our friends and family but we are having a hard time being back in the rat race. Jan asked me the other day "Did we really just go to Sweden and drive to Turkey?". It seems like such a long time ago. We had an amazing time visiting Jan's friends and family. Jan really is blessed to have such a great family and good friends. I feel fortunate to now be part of that circle. (Hello everyone - we miss and love you all) While we were in Sweden, Jan was interviewed by the local newspaper about our trip and all the trips he has made in the past. He is quite the world traveler from the little Swedish town of Sandakra. ... read more
3 months - 10,000 miles - 20 countries - back in Sweden
Published: October 16th 2009Europe » Sweden » Skåne » MalmöWe are back in Sweden after 3 months on the road. We have driven over 10,000 miles and explored 20 countries. Wow - We cant believe we have been in Europe for almost 5 months already and are flying back to Oregon in 10 days. It is a bitter sweet feeling!!!! We both agree we could have spent at least another couple months (or longer) living in the Blue Betty. We are currently in denial that we have to leave her in Sweden. We checked into shipping her home to the US, it was cheaper than we thought, but still not practical. We have had great weather for most of our trip. Now all the beautiful colors of fall are around us but it is cold. It is very beautiful but there goes our tans. I ... read more
