Segovia

 Europe » Spain » Castile & Léon » Segovia
Spain has a number of municipalities that fall into the category of “Spanish Town with a Castle and a Cathedral.” Although we had already visited what is perhaps the most famous of these towns - Toledo, we also had been strongly recommended several times to also visit Segovia, another one of these towns. I must say, that we were not disappointed. Segovia is a really pretty, clean, bright happy town. I took lots of pictures just of the streets and surrounding countryside, which seemed nicer than Toledo. We walked down one of the main avenues until we found our first destination, [View Full Entry]

What do you get when you fill a small four bed sleeper carriage with an aussie architect, a kiwi graphic designer, a Japanese train engineer and a paranoid Maylasian looking Canadian that appeared to have stepped out of the circus. A very funny trip as the kiwi and myself laughed our heads whilst the Canadian Malaysian locked us all in so tight that if the train crashed we would have to be buried in the carriage. Meanwhile the Japanese engineer spent a great deal of time pondering the credibility of the professions of architecture and graphic design before announcing “yes, they [View Full Entry]

Swiss Cow Bells
Bells are/were a status symbol. Larger communicates more wealth for a dairy farmer.
Some photos today for you. The shopkeeper here has given us the 10 minute warning, so not much time for me to write. We are in Seville, but this morning in Granada Sherry and I toured the Alhambra Palace and it was absolutely amazing! Pictures to come soon. Apologies for butchering yet another language. I think I titled the last entry Buenas Dias, but that´s not right. Dia, or day, even though it ends in a vowel, is a masculine noun and so the correct phrase is 'Buenos Dias', or good day. More soon, -Cory [View Full Entry]

So, here we are in Benidorm Spain, after finding out last minute about our honeymoon being cancelled to Mexico. What a tragedy, for us it could have been much worse had we already been down there. Hopefully Mexico can recover quickly and there is not too much devastation. Flew to London from Ottawa, after attending my brother´s wedding, in hopes of finding somewhere else to go --Paris, Spain, Canary Islands. We miscalculated a little since it is school break in the UK and everything was booked. We told the travel agent that we wanted something ¨quiet and peaceful¨so she sent us [View Full Entry]

OK OK Im sorry

Europe » Spain » Basque Country » Bilbao
I am sorry I have not kept up with my blog as much as I had thought but it is not as easy as everyone might think to keep up with this blog. Barcelona has been really amazing and keeping me busy as you can imagine and its difficult for me to get to a computer all the time. I usually have to come to school really early so no one else will be on or go to a internet cafe to pay for a computer. Ok well about some of my adventures. So far I have only stayed in Spain, [View Full Entry]

My fave picture so far
My fave picture so far
Looks like God to me!!!
On Monday, i had the most perfect day. There was not a cloud in the sky (though yes, i do like rain, but this weather was just too perfect!). I slept in to rest my travel-worn body and then I decided to just go explore Barcelona. I hiked to the top of this mountain (of course, since its my favourite thing) and had the most amazing views of the Meditteranean. I had good tunes and was just overwhelmed with such a sense of being at peace! I wasn't worried or concerned or thinking about anything...i just was. I sat in a [View Full Entry]

So after trying to get tickets to the real madrid game and only getting offers of 100 euro for the nosebleeds i gave up. was pretty pissed when i found out that a guy at the hostel that i was staying at waited in the long line that i thought was role call and got tickets for 35 euro. oh well, they lost anyway and i spent the money on something better...beer!! So after two pretty big nights in madrid, i wound up on a train to barcelona. bought a few mags and thought that i would have a little kip [View Full Entry]

Buenas Dias

 Europe » Spain » Andalusia » Granada
It´s been awhile since an update. We are coming down to the last few days of our trip. I´ll try and fill you in on what has transpired. Leaving Paris this past Saturday morning -- thanks very, very much to my friend Jeff there for putting us up, and putting up with us, for 4 nights. Sorry about breaking your sleeper sofa. Long story... -- we traveled to Switzerland by train to visit with Novit and Bianca. They live in a small village just outside Bern and it was really lovely. Sherry and I ate a nice meal of 'game' in [View Full Entry]

Still water
Still water
They called this pond ¨still water¨, I can´t remember what it was called in Arabic, but it meant the water was not potable. The muslims never drank still water only water that was constantly moving. ... [more]
I finally got to see the infamous Alhambra. I was in awe of how much detail there was. All the walls were hand carved to depict a saying in Arabic that says basically, ¨There is no winner, there is noone better than Alah.¨ It was also really cool because it was naturally air conditioned, there is water running through the whole palace making it cool during the hot Andalucian summer days. On Saturday, I decided to take a hike, literally, so I started walking up the bike path into the mountains...three hours later I made it to the reservoir. It was [View Full Entry]
