Background: Spain's powerful world empire of the 16th and 17th centuries ultimately yielded command of the seas to England. In the second half of the 20th century, Spain has played a catch-up role in the western international community; it joined the EU in 1986. Continuing challenges include Basque Fatherland and Liberty (ETA) terrorism and further reductions in unemployment.

Este fin de semana fuimos a Valencia con todo el grupo y fue increíble! Llegamos viernes por la tarde y buscamos para un hostal. Finalmente encontrabamos uno y quiero decir que esa vez fue la primera y la última vez que voy a quedar en un hostal. Fue horrible. El cuarto era muy sucio y el jefe me dio miedo. People drive really fast here. I think Kelly and I have almost gotten ran over about 20 times. But we are being safe . . . Kelly and I made it to Valencia two days ago. We are staying at the Purple tree nest which is a great hostel if you ever go to Valencia. We attempted to find night life here on Friday night, but we just couldn´t pull an all nighter and we really aren´t buying the claims that the night life here is better than in Madrid or BCN. Guess who designed this.

Here is one surprising city. I say surprising because you don´t hear much about it but it is in fact a very modern city with a host of attractions. I have a feeling that Valencia has been somewhat snubbed by the country for political reasons, but that's another kettle of fish which I don't want to open. Anyway, there's a riverbed which is now covered and coverted into a 9km stretch of clean and well-planned parkland. In the streets of Valencia

We went down to Valencia for 4 days last week and it was absolutely beautiful. The city is so old and has very traditional buidings but at the same time also has a lot of very new and modern buildings, so it's a very nice balance. We went to the La Tomatina festival while we were here, which I'll post once I get the pictures back. We also went to the big aquarium, hung out at the beach, shopped, and saw some flamingo dancing. I arrived from Barcelona to Valencia and still felt a bit ill when a friend of mine picked me up at the station. The next day I had to visit a doctor and got conformated the fear that my tonsels had gone bad. The next five days happened on antibiotics. Playa de sueca sunset

For those of you that may not know, in a little village called Bunol (about 40K from Valencia), the largest food fight in the world is held every year. Thousands of people manage to get over to it, and this year, we were two of the lucky people. Pamplona

Sorry I haven´t had a chance to do a blog in ages. We left london on july first and have been making our way around the coast of Spain and Portrugal. I´ve been having a ball and am geting a fab tan. Fist stop was Paris to see the sights then we traveled through Bordeaux for a bit of culture and wine tasting before the mayhem of Pamplona and the running of the bulls. The Bull Ring

We traveled back to Spain after the wedding, arriving back to Valencia about 9pm Monday night. Greg and I were lucky enough to stay with our friends Brett, Lou and their daughter Clare for the next four days. Brett and another friend of ours Tim are working for team Alinghi, the defenders of the America’s Cup that will be held in Valencia next year. I stayed in Valencia for two days. In two different hostels, I was going to a small town between here and Barcelona. Unfortunately there is a huge concert around there too, so I had a tough time to find a hostel between Valencia and Barcelona. I can´t even get a train ticket (another story here).
