Background: Spain's powerful world empire of the 16th and 17th centuries ultimately yielded command of the seas to England. Subsequent failure to embrace the mercantile and industrial revolutions caused the country to fall behind Britain, France, and Germany in economic and political power. Spain remained neutral in World Wars I and II, but suffered through a devastating civil war (1936-39). In the second half of the 20th century, Spain has played a catch-up role in the western international community; it joined the EU in 1986. Continuing challenges include Basque Fatherland and Liberty (ETA) terrorism and further reductions in unemployment.

Last night we went to Torrevieja this nice fishing city it had a great foreshore with nice market stalls along it. When it was getting dark we walked to the church which had this amazing minature nativity scene it was incredible, so much work went into it, it had heaps of different scenes from the story and all these amazing details and a few scenes with things Torrevieja were famous for like the salt hills that they process. It had the pyramids of egypt when Jesus' family had to flee there and the marriage of Mary and Joseph and the visits [View Full Entry]

glory glory hallelujah! aapta and i we were going to go north for the puente (wed, thurs, and friday off), but the forecast said rain. so instead, we went to the costa del sol, for the sol! valencia is spain's 3rd largest city, after madrid (woot!) and barcelona. it's on the beach. they had a giant river, but they diverted it for some reason. so now, their riverbed is a gorgeous, very well-designed park with trails and playgrounds and all sorts of unrestrained joy. the COOLEST thing in valencia by far is the ciutat de les artes i de les ciences. The more I see of Spain, the more I have grown to love Catalonia. When I first arrived here in Tarragona, I felt that the whole want for Catalan independence was a bit exxagerated and false but, now I can see how different the two areas of 'Spain' are. Catalan is not a dialect!! - Catalonian culture is so different to Spanish culture, there seems to be even more emphasis on family and community and FIESTAS are a necessity!! --- Do not get me wrong the other parts of Spain that I have seen so far have been magnificent but there [View Full Entry]

card tricks

Hello all!!!!!! It´s been a while since I have blogged. I have been very busy. I am well, Sara is well and we are having a great time. When I arrived in London I was very tired and the very next day I flew into Dublin and hired a car to see Galway, Sligo and Donegal. I went in to tombs dating back to 4000 BC. Then I went to James´wedding and that was fantastic at Trinity college. Then we flew to Barcelona and spent three days there. Now in Valencia. Will blog later, cya. [View Full Entry]

Después fuimos a [View Full Entry]
