Hello eveyone,
Well I have been in Spain for around 5 days now so I thought that I had better send an update and some photos.
The trip has been great so far, I have seen most of the sights of La Coruna, Spain where Simon and Amanda live. The Tower of Hercules which is the oldest functioning light house in the world is in la coruna, and we have a lovely view of if from simons lounge room.
The weather has been wet, very wet, or ridiculously wet. But the travel gear is holding up and so there has been no real drama’s as yet. I have been tasting the local fare and enjoying every morsel, which I am sure you are all surprised by. Highlights include; santiago cake, Jamon (ham) and cheese in a proper Jamoneria (see photo), tapas, chorizo (amazing) all very typical spanish fare.

Over the weekend we headed down to Porto, in Portugal. Where port wine originated. We started with portugese custard tarts (see below), which I have been dreaming of for months now.

I have eaten about a years worth in 2 days.

Porto was fantastic, the buildings are all covered with painted tiles and the city is very majestic. We wandered the sights, had a lovely river cruise and then got stuck into some serious port tastings. Scary amounts of port were drunk, we hooked up with a Brazilian guy, Fabio who was working at the port drinking spot. He joined our festivities, where after consuming about 2 bottles of port between the 3 of us, we stumbled into a taxi to head home to the hotel. As you can see port has strange effects on people

Sunday was rough, and slow starting. headaches and dry reaching was followed by a tour of the stock exchange building in porto, and MacDonalds,
which hit the spot. Travelled home via Santiago de Compostela, where we visited the cathedral of St James, which is the end point for christian pilgrims who ‘walk the camino’. Gave St James a hug, which brings good luck.

Today, Mands and I have done some food shopping and basically eating pastries, it’s a great day today. I have a few more days here before heading to Paris
