Ole.. Tapas, Pallea and Picasso and so much more.. I flew from Sao Paulo to Madrid which was so sad cause I could have spent a lot more time in South America. But then I arrived to Madrid and that felling was soon gone, there was a new city to explore. I have been to Madrid before but it was years ago and it was amazing to first see the people and the buildings of Europe again. The one down side was the weather.. From a hot summer of South America to the cold Winter in Europe is a big jump, well what can you do?? I spent a few days just touring the city before I left for Morroco and a few after. What a weekend. We flew out Friday at noonish since flights were randomly cheaper than the train. We get to Madrid and we are going to take the metro downtown to find a hostel. Technical problem, the airport is connected to the city by one line and there is a train stuck in that line. So we get a cab after waiting a while since the bus drivers are on strike. We get dropped off at the Prado and walk up the street to find a hostel since we had serious trouble booking online. Randomly find an awesome, cheap hostel within 10 minutes. Friday we see the Prado and hit all of the major paintings from my Spanish Painters class: Velazquez, El Greco, Goya. Hi all... sorry I haven't updated in awhile (I am really bad about doing this blog), but anyways... A few weekends ago the group traveled to Barcelona and made the typical tourist trek around the city: stopping at Gaudi's Parque Guell, the harbor for dinner, a Palace that now holds a collection of famous tapestries (and also a beautiful show with a fountain and music outside), the 1992 Summer Olympic Stadium, the Sagrada Familia, Barcelona's Cathedral, and the Picasso Museum. I would say out of everything la Sagrada Familia was by far my favorite, and I am excited to return to Barcelona someday when it is complete. While I enjoyed my time in Barcelona, just a few days was way too short of a time in which to really understand and appreciate a city so rich ... read more
