Buenas Dias!
Well you will all be glad to know that our second day in Lisbon was a lot better then the first. We woke up early and went for a small hike up to Saint George's Castle which overlooks the entire city and we also went to the Belem district to see the Moestary and it was beautiful. Our lunch on the other hand was a little unusual. We went to a cafe and they automatically bring you bread, sliced ham and chesse, which they charge you for if you eat them, We also ordered grilled shrimp (and some sangria, naturally), if I would had a camera on Kelly and Catie when they set the plate of shrimp on the table I would of won a prize . the shrimp still had the heads and shells on them and they both refused to eat them, I even peeled the shrimp and cut off the heads for them! So we decided not to order seafood anymore on the trip.
We spent the rest of the day sitting by the Tagus River enjoy the view of the Golden Gate Bridge replica and walking around to some small shops in the area. Much to my excitment we found the Pastries de Belem, which is famous for Portugal's signature dessert custard tarts, they were delicious!
At 10:00 at night we boarded the train to Madrid. We had a sleeper car for four people and since there are only three of us we had a roommate. She didn't speak English and her parents were in the car next to us, so she wasn't too much of a bother. I feel fast asleep, but Kelly and Catie weren't as lucky. The train is a unique experience that is for sure.
So here we are in Madrid, and I think I can speak for all three of us when I say we are in love! It is a beautiful city with a lot to see. We started the day by getting coffee, which is so strong they give you a huge packet of sugar! Catie had two so she could have enough energy to get through the day. We walked to the Palace and a few of the plazas and are starting to learn our way around the city. Luckily Kelly is helping us get by with some Spanish! We have another day and half to go so I am sure I will have a lot more to write about.
Miss you guys!
Sarah
