Casa Mila
April and I on the rooftop of Casa Mila - Gaudi´s famous housing development from 1900 exclusively for luxury condo living So we went to Barcelona last week and it has been a while since I had time to really update for everyone. I´m sorry it´s been so long!!
We had a horrible bus ride into the city (an OVERNIGHT bus....but never again! the whole bus was ripe with dirty people). On zero sleep, we trudged around town to the amazing Museu Picasso. Picasso did a lot of his work in Barcelona including some works from his blue period. We visited the cathedral as well on that Saturday and then Wes & I went to the hostel for a 5 hour nap so we could go out again.
After all that we went out to the fountain show in the main plaza next to the stadium they used for the 1992 Olympics (right?) where there were sooo many fountains and then a big huge one they use for the light, water, and music show (think Bellaggio meets Epcot). It was so pretty and I have included several pics of the fountain for all of you to see! After which we went to Las Ramblas, the famous pretty sidewalk cafes and entertaining night life for dinner at a local restaurant and
Gaudi Park
Gaudi´s famous park at the entrance...can you spot me in pink? ice cream at a Haagen Dazs sit down restaurant (interesting and delicious haha).
The next day was a much better one because we were better rested and in better spirits of course! We got up really early to go to Gaudi´s Casa Mila - a luxury condominium complex with no straight lines from 1900. It´s got kind of a Dr. Seuss look about it which was really cool. Pictures were only permitted on the roof and from up there we had a great view of Barcelona, which we fondly took to calling ¨Barcy¨! haha
After all that fun, we went to Gaudi´s next major work of art: Sagrada Familia which is a modern cathedral started in the 1890´s. It will be several years until it is all completed because as of now it is only 50% built! The outside tells bible stories of Jesus´entire life including a huge nativity scene. I tried to get some good pictures of this but it was difficult because the building is so huge. This was very impressive.
To end our Barcy adventure, we went to Park Guelle... also built and designed by Gaudi. This park was meant to be a sort
Lizard
At Gaudi´s park again... me smiling with the famous lizard! of gated community in 1900...and since the idea of a gated, wealthy community was so far ahead of it´s time then, it failed and remains today as a park. It´s all very pretty...and my best pictures come from this park atop a huge hill at the highest point of the entire city.
This weekend we head to Bilbao (the famous Guggenheim Museum), San Sebastian (gorgeous beach town...the weather will be sunny and 80 degrees on the Cantabrian Sea tomorrow!) and Pamplona (the famous running of the bulls)!!
Catch ya later!! 😊
Love, T
