Finally a beer in Barcelona!
Hi Folks! Finally time to blog. The unfortunate fact that I picked up a terrible cold and our Monaco stop has been cancelled due to high seas has one bright side. I am sitting here on the ship in our beautiful suite with lots of time to tell you what we’ve been up to!
Our hotel in Barcelona, “Hotel 1898” was beautiful. The decor was somewhat art deco in style with contemporary Barcelona touch. As soon as we arrived, we all departed to different parts to relax.
Kayla, Mike, Teresa and Tony took off for the rooftop lounge and pool for repair and rejuvenation. Cigars, Sangria, a cool swim and magnificent views!
Jim and I had a cocktail at the hotel bar and decided to venture out onto La Rambla for saffron infused Paella. We then headed off to the Barcelona Cathedral built in 1298. In the crypt beneath the main altar is the alabaster sarcophagus (carved in 1339) of St. Eulalia who was martyred for her beliefs by the Romans in the 4th century. After visiting the cathedral we headed back to the hotel and to our room for some desperately needed sleep. By then my cold had decided to

attack my body with vengeance. Lucky me…. Perfectly healthy all year and I pick up a bug on the plane!
Refreshed and fortified T & T ventured out to wander through the narrow winding streets and found “La Boqueria”, the huge central market filled with wonders of colorful produce, meats barely off the hoof and bunches of fragrant flowers. This place is a dream for any foodie at heart! But if you have any qualms about being eyed by the heads of assorted creatures beware! In my opinion, sheep are definitely the creepiest.
Later while Jim and were snoozing away our first evening in Barcelona, K,M and the T’s were once more out one the town in search of a good time. They started with drinks at the hotel roof lounge again, under a brilliant moon. It was a sultry evening in the Gothic quarter where they joined the other revelers on La Rambla and enjoyed their first real taste of Catalonia…..Tapas, Rioja, and the Chef carving the biggest fish we’ve ever seen on a carving board!
