Thought I better write a very quick blog about our recent (early september) trip to Barcelona and post a few photos. Trip came about as we found some cheap flights and thought we better take them as we probably wouldnt have had another chance to get to Spain before we had to go home.
Trip was a bit of a disaster to start with though, arrived at our hostel about 11pm on a thursday night, didnt get into a bed until about 2:30am though. In short, it was a brand new place which had opened about 2 days before, and they didnt have our rooms so in the end we had to sleep in a room which was still under construction, no bedding, no electricity, nothing! At least the second night we got a proper room and they gave us the first night for free which was good.
A bit tired and weary eyed, we spent the first day doing a few touristy things starting with a visit to the Sagrada Familia, an extraordinary church which was designed and started by Gaudi in 1883, and is still under construction today. Every aspect of the church is amazing and original,
from the intricate and exquisite facades to the amazing windows and structures inside. Apparently it will be finished sometime in the next 15 years!
We followed this up with a visit to Parc Guell, another of the many exhibitions of Gaudi's work which are found all over Barcelona. It contained a lot of beautiful mosaic artwork and sculptures, along with a heap of very talented spanish guitar playing buskers.
The next couple of days we were there we didnt do a whole let, just lazed around on the beach mainly and soaked up the nice hot weather we had been missing so much in London. Also got a chance to take a tour of Barcelona FC's football stadium, Camp Nou, which was very impressive, the biggest stadium in Europe which holds around 100,000 fans.
All in all, Barcelona definitely exceeded any expectations I had, and definitely made us want to come back to Spain later and explore it properly!
